JOB SUMMARY

The Operations Manager Hydro is responsible for coordinating daily field operations to ensure efficient scheduling, fleet readiness, crew support, and exceptional customer service. This role oversees truck dispatching, maintenance coordination, production tracking, labor monitoring, and work ticket review while serving as the central point of communication between field crews, customers, and management. The Hydro Vac Operations Manager plays a critical role in maintaining operational efficiency, maximizing equipment utilization, and ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget. In addition to managing day-to-day operations, this position drives continuous improvement initiatives by developing standard operating procedures, implementing preventive maintenance programs, supporting workforce planning and training, and contributing to strategic growth objectives. The role is focused on reducing downtime, improving profitability, strengthening emergency response capabilities, and scaling operations to support future market expansion.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

• Coordinate and dispatch crews, equipment, and vehicles to ensure efficient daily field operations and timely completion of scheduled work.

• Verify that all trucks, equipment, and tools are inspected, operational, and ready for deployment each day.

• Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities to minimize downtime and maximize fleet utilization.

• Serve as the primary point of communication between field crews, customers, vendors, and management regarding scheduling, operational issues, and service needs.

• Provide ongoing support to field personnel by addressing operational challenges, reallocating resources as needed, and ensuring crews have the information and equipment necessary to perform assigned work.

• Monitor daily production, labor hours, equipment usage, and operational performance to ensure productivity and efficiency goals are met.

• Review completed work tickets, service documentation, and field reports for accuracy, completeness, and timely processing.

• Resolve customer concerns and operational service issues in a professional and timely manner to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.

• Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and short-term schedules to optimize workforce utilization, fleet resources, and project delivery.

• Assist in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and operational best practices.

• Support hiring, onboarding, training, and development initiatives to ensure an effective and qualified workforce.

• Maintain accurate operational records, reports, and performance metrics to support management decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.

• Contribute to operational planning efforts, including fleet growth, equipment standardization, inventory management, and emergency response preparedness.

• Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, increase equipment utilization, and enhance overall profitability.

• Promote and support a positive safety culture by ensuring compliance with company policies, customer requirements, and all applicable safety regulations.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Construction Management, Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

• Minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressive operational leadership experience in hydro excavation, utility construction, civil construction, industrial services, fleet operations, or related industries.

• Demonstrated experience managing field operations, fleet resources, equipment utilization, workforce scheduling, and production activities.

• Strong knowledge of hydro excavation operations, underground utility protection practices, excavation safety requirements, and applicable industry standards.

• Proven ability to lead, coach, develop, and hold supervisors, foremen, operators, and field personnel accountable for operational, safety, and performance expectations.

• Experience developing and implementing operational metrics, performance measurements, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Ability to analyze operational and financial data to drive productivity, efficiency, asset utilization, and profitability improvements.

• Experience developing and implementing standard operating procedures (SOPs), best practices, and process improvement programs.

• Strong working knowledge of preventive maintenance programs, equipment lifecycle management, fleet utilization, and asset management.

• Knowledge of OSHA regulations, DOT requirements, environmental regulations, and customer-specific safety standards.

• Experience managing operational budgets, controlling costs, and supporting financial performance objectives.

• Excellent organizational, planning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with customers, employees, vendors, and executive leadership.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and operational management software, including dispatching, fleet management, and reporting systems.

• Must be dependable, trustworthy, and capable of maintaining confidential business information.

• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ten (10) or more years of hydro excavation, utility construction, vacuum truck, pipeline, infrastructure, or industrial services experience.

• Previous experience managing multiple crews, locations, or operating divisions.

• Experience supporting emergency response, storm restoration, or disaster recovery operations.

• Experience with operational forecasting, strategic planning, and geographic expansion initiatives.

• Professional certifications in project management, leadership, safety, or continuous improvement methodologies.

• Experience with fleet telematics, GPS tracking systems, maintenance management systems, and operational analytics platforms.

Education : College education or 15 years in the Hydro Vac field.

Computer Skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook preferred.
