Job Description
Under limited supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled work duties at Bunkie General Hospital and its outer buildings, including clinics. Further, patrols, guards and protects the assets, staff, patients and visitors of BGH, by functioning as a security guard. Performs various Environmental Services duties which include; but, not limited to the following: Cleaning all floors and surface areas, Disinfection while upholding Infection Control mandates, Waste Removal, Stocking Housekeeping carts, Removal/Maintaining Patient Bedding, and Hospital Linens. All performance of duties/assignments are performed while demonstrating and adhering the highest standards of ethical and moral conduct while practicing safe cleaning practices that meet OSHA, Infection Control, Healthcare guidelines for employees, patients and hospitals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves as primary provider of security services by performing the following duties:
- conducts foot patrols of buildings and grounds, enforcing applicable local, city, state and federal laws; stand guard post in the ER in order to protect th e assets, staff, patients and visitors of BGH.
- monitors points of access in buildings or property to allow entry only to individuals with authorization.
- observes for any and all safety and security violations.
- reports all activity on formal reporting forms for record keeping purposes.
- takes charge of security and safety violations to protect life, limb and hospital property.
- Contacts local authorities in case of emergencies.
- escorts persons from the property that have been given trespass warnings by BGH personnel; and/or, contact local police for assistance.
- in case of emergencies, makes written or verbal reports to law enforcement, management as needed and required to assist with investigations if needed. Further, reports all signs of damage or unlawful entry as it occurs.
- in cases of emergencies, they may provide first aid or assistance and alert first responders; therefore, CPR certification may be required.
- stands guard, observe and oversee one-on-one patients as assigned by management, shall receive training in crisis prevention.
- knows and enforce rules and regulations to prevent criminal, unsafe activity before it happens; notify management of any criminal activity immediately.
Performs environmental service/housekeeping duties by cleaning and performing:
- routine floor maintenance;
- maintaining floor care logs and checklists including daily checklists during sterilization of patient rooms, restrooms, hallways, clinic rooms, offices;
- maintaining clean bedding and linen for patients;
- maintaining clean hospital environment for patients, guests and staff;
- reporting repairs of equipment, property to facility maintenance manager and environmental service security manager;
- removing waste and transports waste to appropriate disposal areas while identifying proper waste stream (i.e., regulated medical, recycle, solid and hazardous);
- operating all equipment with care and according to facility and manufacturers safety standards and procedures.
- Maintaining stocked cart in order to complete cleaning duties in an efficient and orderly manner.
- Participating in departmental performance improvement initiatives including, but not limited to, initiatives to improve HCAHPS scores as it relates to hospital cleanliness and “always quiet”.
- Following all infection prevention practices (i.e.: proper cleaning processes, hand hygiene, standard and isolation precautions where and if required and proper use of personal protective equipment – PPE).
- Recognizes and adheres to patient privacy requirements (HIPAA).
- Any other duties, as assigned by management.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of trades related to environmental services in healthcare/hospital settings.
- Knowledge of a variety of cleaning products, hospital-approved chemicals, environmental services/disinfection in hospital/healthcare settings.
- Knowledge of equipment, and tools necessary for the sterilization/disinfection/cleaning of hospital areas/surfaces in patient care areas, hospital corridors, healthcare settings including offices.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Skill in reading and following instructions, chemical instructions, safety precautions, hazardous material/waste instructions; and safety/security duties/responsibilities/instructions.
- Skills in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
- Skills in using tools, equipment, chemicals, hazardous waste/products.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with BGH Hospital staff.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to adhere to all policies, procedures and state and federal laws in protecting staff, visitors and patients.
- Completion of a crisis prevention class.
- CPR certification may be required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:+Work involves moderate to heavy work in all types of weather. There is frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. BGH promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment and random drug testing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or GED. 1 year Healthcare/Hospital environmental services/disinfection/sterilization experience, preferred. 2-3 years of security guard experience, preferred.
