Job Title: Account Manager
Reports To: Executive Vice President
Department: Sales / Business Development
FLSA Status: Exempt
Revision Date: June 25, 2026

Summary

The Account Manager is responsible for developing roofing service and construction opportunities across assigned customers by strengthening relationships, supporting proposal development, coordinating estimating, and assisting with operational continuity. This role blends business development, account management, and project support to expand D. C. Taylor Co.'s presence in industrial, food, agriculture, manufacturing, and similar facility environments. The position focuses on building relationships with plant managers, facility managers, and other stakeholders who value planning, safety, and asset management rather than low-bid procurement alone, partnering with them as part of their facility and roof management team to plan, prioritize, and execute projects over the life of their roofs.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Identify and develop new customer relationships in targeted geographies, industries, and strategic accounts to create service and construction opportunities aligned with company goals.
  • Collaborate with leadership and internal teams to identify preferred customer types and develop effective business development strategies.
  • Conduct customer interviews and roof project discussions to assess needs, budgets, maintenance priorities, and capital planning requirements.
  • Perform or support roof surveys, field documentation, measuring, sketching, and condition assessments to define roof type, deficiencies, and project scope.
  • Coordinate with estimating and project teams to prepare scopes of work, estimates, budgets, and proposals that meet customer requirements and company profitability, warranty, code, and risk standards.
  • Present proposals, promote roofing services and construction solutions, and pursue contracts that align with customer needs and company expectations.
  • Maintain complete, timely, and accurate CRM, RoofLogic Manager, and sales funnel records for leads, contacts, opportunities, activities, and forecasts.
  • Serve as a key contact for assigned accounts, support master service agreement relationships where applicable, and respond promptly to customer requests and concerns.
  • Attend pre-bid, pre-construction, customer coordination, sales, and project meetings as needed to support opportunity development and project success.
  • Review estimate quality, analyze project and proposal information, and support continuous improvement of estimating accuracy and internal processes.
  • Support day-to-day operational continuity by actively communicating and coordinating with construction, service, safety, and operations teams.
  • Promote safety expectations, participate in safety initiatives, and support customer-facing discussions involving roof access, fall protection, and safe work planning.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve department and company goals.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Report employment-related concerns and issues to Human Resources, including harassment, discrimination, workplace violence, policy violations, and any other matters that may affect employee well-being or compliance.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures; report all unsafe activities to the Safety Department.
  • Obtain and maintain current knowledge of roofing systems, factory mutual requirements, industry requirements, codes, and authorities having jurisdiction relevant to assigned markets and customers.
  • Participate in professional development, certifications, and industry engagement that strengthen technical, sales, and leadership effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required where experience is substantial.
  • 7+ years of experience in commercial or industrial roofing, building envelope, construction services, industrial sales, business development, estimating, or related fields preferred.
  • Strong ability to build relationships with plant managers, facility managers, maintenance leaders, engineers, and other customer stakeholders.
  • Experience with roof surveys, scope development, constructability, proposal preparation, consultative selling, and coordination with estimating and operations teams.
  • Working knowledge of CRM systems, Microsoft Office applications, and field documentation tools; familiarity with RoofLogic Manager is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, customer service and responsiveness, and effective organizational, analytical, and follow-up abilities.
  • Ability to travel as needed to customer facilities, meetings, job sites, and all D. C. Taylor Co. offices.
  • Proficient with MS applications and excellent computer skills.

Language Requirements

  • The primary language of D. C. Taylor Co. is English; proficiency in Spanish is considered a valuable plus.
  • Ability to actively listen for total comprehension, ask questions that enhance understanding, relay information and instruction clearly in written and verbal forms, and respond in a timely manner.

Mathematical Requirements

  • This role involves cost review, estimate evaluation, forecasting, and basic financial interpretation related to proposals, margins, and project planning.
  • Basic accounting knowledge is required, along with solid skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and the ability to work with geometry and volume and to convert quoted units of measure to how materials will be installed.

Reasoning Ability Requirements

  • Professional-level reasoning abilities are necessary to process complex customer, project, and proposal information, to make sound business decisions, and to help customers do the same by evaluating other suppliers’ proposals, identifying potential deficiencies, and clarifying impacts on safety, performance, and lifecycle outcomes.
  • Candidates must be able to prioritize deadlines, coordinate internal resources, and resolve issues in a practical and timely manner.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs., including extension ladders, may be necessary from time to time.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time, view a computer monitor, and type up to 8 hours a day.
  • Must be able to visit roofs, job sites, and industrial facilities, including walking, climbing ladders, and navigating active construction and service environments.
  • Regular travel by vehicle and/or air to customer facilities, job sites, and company offices is required, including day trips and periodic multi-day visits based on territory and project needs.
