Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Music Teacher Leave Replacement will provide engaging, developmentally appropriate music instruction to students in the Lower School and Lower Elementary programs at Washington Montessori School. This position delivers a sequential music curriculum rooted in the Montessori philosophy, fostering a love of music and building foundational skills in rhythm, pitch, movement, and musical expression. The Music Teacher Leave Replacement will collaborate closely with classroom teachers and school leadership to ensure that music enriches and supports the broader educational experience of every student.
MUSIC INSTRUCTION
This position is expected to be on-site at Washington Montessori on Monday and Wednesday between 9:45 am and 3:30 pm, and Tuesday between 9:45 am and 2:15 pm. Candidates must be available during these time periods.

CLASSROOM & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain an organized, well-resourced music classroom environment with appropriate materials for each level.
Keep accurate records of student progress and participation in order to write progress reports.
Communicate with classroom teachers and advisors regarding student engagement, progress, and any concerns.
Refer parent inquiries and concerns to the appropriate classroom teacher.
Model good community citizenship and uphold school policies and protocols at all times.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of the school’s mission and operations.

QUALIFICATIONS
Skills & Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field; Master’s degree a plus.
Experience teaching music to young children, preferably in an early childhood or elementary setting.
Strong musicianship across multiple areas, including voice, piano or guitar, and classroom percussion instruments.
Familiarity with Orff Schulwerk, Kodály, or other established music education methodologies.
Knowledge of or genuine interest in Montessori philosophy and its application to music education.
Warm, patient, and enthusiastic approach to working with young children.
Strong collaborative and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with classroom teachers, administrators, and families.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This is a part-time, temporary, in-person position. The Music Teacher Leave Replacement position works primarily on campus during regular school hours. Occasional evening availability is required for school concerts and performances.
