Job Description

Director, Strategic Partnerships

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Strategic Partnerships based in the United States.

This is a high-impact, zero-to-one leadership opportunity focused on building a strategic partnerships function from the ground up.
You will define the partnerships strategy, identify the highest-value channels, and personally establish the first commercial relationships.
The role spans resellers, agencies, sales consultancies, systems integrators, hyperscalers, and technology platforms.
Success will be measured by tangible pipeline generation, commercial outcomes, and the ability to turn partnerships into a scalable growth engine.
You’ll collaborate closely with Sales, Marketing, Legal, and Field leadership to develop compelling commercial and go-to-market motions.
As the function gains traction, you will transition from hands-on builder to team leader, creating the structure and talent needed for scale.
This role is ideal for a commercially driven partnerships leader who thrives in ambiguity and enjoys building new capabilities in a fast-moving technology environment.

Accountabilities
  • Build the partnerships function: Develop the partnerships strategy from the ground up, determine which partner categories to prioritize, and establish the processes and operating model required to create a scalable growth channel.
  • Source and close strategic partnerships: Identify, engage, structure, negotiate, and close referral, reseller, co-selling, agency, consultancy, systems integrator, and technology platform relationships.
  • Generate pipeline: Build partnerships with a clear focus on measurable revenue impact, ensuring partner relationships consistently contribute qualified pipeline and closed business rather than serving primarily as brand or networking initiatives.
  • Leverage strategic networks: Activate an established network across technology companies, resellers, agencies, consultancies, systems integrators, and platform providers to accelerate access to senior decision-makers.
  • Develop commercial models: Create partnership-specific business models and go-to-market strategies in collaboration with Sales, Marketing, and Legal, ensuring arrangements deliver value for all parties.
  • Drive partner activation: Own partnerships from initial opportunity identification through business-case development, negotiation, launch, ongoing management, and performance optimization.
  • Collaborate on demand generation: Work with Sales, Marketing, and Field leadership on events and joint marketing initiatives that strengthen indirect pipeline generation and complement partner-sourced opportunities.
  • Measure performance: Establish clear goals and metrics for partnerships, monitor pipeline contribution and commercial performance, and continuously refine the strategy based on results.
  • Build the team: Initially operate as a hands-on individual contributor before recruiting, developing, and leading a partnerships organization as the function expands.
Requirements
  • Experience: 8+ years of experience in strategic partnerships, business development, channel sales, or a closely related commercial function within SaaS, AI, or technology companies.
  • Zero-to-one leadership: Demonstrated experience creating a partnerships function or program from scratch within a high-growth organization, including developing strategy, processes, commercial models, and initial partner relationships without relying on an established playbook.
  • Commercial orientation: Strong revenue and pipeline mindset, with a proven ability to translate partnerships into measurable business outcomes and closed deals.
  • Strategic network: An established network across resellers, sales consultancies, agencies, technical partners, hyperscalers, platforms, and major systems integrators.
  • Business development: Proven ability to identify opportunities, establish executive-level relationships, negotiate agreements, and move partnerships rapidly from concept to execution.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Ability to work effectively with Sales, Marketing, Legal, Field, and executive stakeholders to develop and launch integrated partnership strategies.
  • Leadership potential: Experience demonstrating career progression and increasing responsibility, with the ability to evolve from hands-on builder into an effective people leader.
  • Startup mindset: Comfortable working with significant ambiguity, defining priorities independently, taking ownership, and moving quickly in a high-growth environment.
  • Communication: Strong executive presence, negotiation skills, commercial judgment, and the ability to communicate compelling partnership value propositions to internal and external stakeholders.
Benefits
  • Location flexibility: Remote opportunity open to candidates across the United States, with San Francisco preferred for candidates able to work locally.
  • High-impact ownership: Opportunity to build a strategic growth function from zero to one and directly influence the organization’s revenue trajectory.
  • Leadership opportunity: Potential to build and lead a dedicated partnerships team as the function scales.
  • Growth environment: Join a rapidly growing AI technology organization operating at the intersection of artificial intelligence, sales, and enterprise technology.
  • Strategic exposure: Work directly with Sales, Marketing, Field, Legal, and executive leadership while shaping major commercial initiatives.
  • Inclusive workplace: Commitment to equal employment opportunity and a diverse, inclusive environment where individuals from all backgrounds are encouraged to contribute and grow.
