Job Description
Firehawk is a leading propulsion-focused aerospace and defense company located in Addison, TX. Our innovative approach empowers us to design and manufacture cutting-edge solid and hybrid rocket motors and engines. We aim to push the boundaries of propulsion technology to serve both commercial and defense sectors.
The R&D Intern will support propellant formulation and process development efforts by assisting with the mixing, testing, and processing of new thermoplastic propellants. Testing may include safety evaluations, ballistic performance assessments, and mechanical characterization. The intern will also support various process development activities such as compression molding, twin‑screw extrusion mixing, and laboratory experimentation.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be currently enrolled as a student of an undergraduate or graduate degree program in a related field with at least one semester remaining
U.S. citizenship is required, and no current or future work authorization sponsorship is available
Ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
Passion for aerospace or defense technology
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
6+ months prior internship experience with applicable skills is highly preferred
GPA of 3.5 or above is preferred, but not required
Application Process: The application period for the job is estimated to be 30-45 days from the job posting date. However, this timeline may be shortened or extended depending on business needs and the availability of qualified candidates. Candidate selections and interviews will be conducted October through November with offers/selections being made by the end of December for the Summer 2027 Internship openings.
Internship Duration: 10-12 weeks, May-August 2027
Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds; may require minimal walking, standing for extended amounts of time, climbing, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
Security Clearance: May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Requires U.S. Citizenship. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
