Description:

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for assisting Dentists during the examination and treatment of patients, providing the highest-level customer service and patient care. The Dental Assistant assists in the administering of company policies and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure quality patient service by providing thorough patient care, effective communication and personal attention in a gentle, caring manner.
  • Prepare the treatment rooms, patient records, equipment and necessary instruments for dental procedures.
  • Provide chairside assistance to the Doctor including but not limited to basic and complex restorative, surgical, endodontic, pediatric, emergency and preventative dental treatment procedures.
  • Record accurate and concise patient/treatment information and clinical notes into dental program as instructed by Doctor.
  • Explain to each patient the purpose and process involved in their dental care and reinforce the treatment plan prescribed by the Doctor.
  • Explain consents in detail, answer patient questions and obtain patient signatures.
  • Expose quality radiographs; date and label properly.
  • Perform various laboratory procedures (pouring study models, fabricating bleaching trays, etc.)
  • Support business goals by utilizing schedules effectively and supporting the practice revenue objectives.
  • Schedule patient referrals, appointments and prepare schedule for dentist.
  • Effectively communicate and develop a strong working relationship with the Doctor and promote teamwork through cooperative and professional behaviors.
  • Maintain a clean work environment and dental equipment to meet OSHA and Center for Disease Control sterilization and infection control regulatory standards.
  • Maintain dental equipment in proper working order.
  • Responsible for stocking treatment areas.
  • Conduct work in compliance with state, federal, and other regulations, (e.g., OSHA, WC, Dental Board, HIPAA, ADA, FEHA, DOL & practice policies and practices).
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Registered Dental Assistant Certification required.
  • Specified training courses as mandated by state for certification, licensure or registration requirements.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • N2O certification required.
  • Educated and compliant with HIPAA regulations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Able to make anterior and posterior temporary crown with good margins and contacts.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and institutional regulations and guidelines for the provision of dental services.
  • Knowledgeable about and ability to comply with Infection Control, Standard Precautions and OSHA standards for the healthcare professional.
  • Strong patient care skills.
  • Skill in providing excellent customer service and support.
  • Able to multitask and handle multiple business and workplace changes that may arise.
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing.
  • Able to work well on a team and independently.
  • Able to be perform work with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a safe and healthy environment for patients and co-workers.
  • Ability to respond professionally in stressful situations.
  • Must be computer literate with ability to enter information in the company’s patient tracking system.

Other Requirements:

  • Days and hours of the position take place between Monday – Saturday; days/hours vary depending upon clinic location.
  • Maintain Continuing Education credits
  • Maintain CPR accreditation

The position requires:

  • Manual dexterity to assist with equipment operation;
  • Visual and hearing acuity corrected to normal range, with or without the aid of assistive devices.
  • Mobility, stooping, reaching, bending with occasional lifting up objects up to 25lbs.
  • Grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, and finger/hand dexterity to handle computer, dental and other equipment.
  • Must be able to tolerate prolonged sitting.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to:
  • moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles;
  • risk of electrical shock and risk of radiation.
