GIS/Remote Sensing Analyst – Southern Region

Ridgeland, Mississippi

Ducks Unlimited, Inc (DU)., the world’s leading wetland and waterfowl conservation organization, is seeking an experienced GIS/Remote Sensing Analyst to support conservation planning and habitat delivery across our 13-state Southern Region and will work collaboratively with staff across all departments. Working collaboratively with staff across departments, the Analyst will apply GIS and remote sensing tools to prioritize conservation efforts, support landowner enrollment in conservation programs, maintain spatial records, quantify project outcomes, ensure data quality, and assist with communications that emphasize the benefits of DU’s conservation work.

The position will primarily support Flyway Forests, DU’s reforestation carbon program operating in Arkansas, Missouri, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee. Working closely with the Program Manager, the Analyst will delineate parcel boundaries, evaluate sites for carbon project eligibility, coordinate spatial due diligence and contract support, maintain project and monitoring databases, and integrate project information into DU’s national conservation tracking systems. In addition, the successful candidate will collaborate with GIS and conservation professionals throughout the region, support baseline documentation and easement monitoring efforts, and bring strong project management, communication, and analytical skills, along with a passion for wetland conservation.

This position will report to the Director of Conservation Science & Planning for DU’s Southern Region and will cooperate with DU staff across the region. This position will be located at DU’s Southern Regional Office located in Ridgeland, Mississippi.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, or a related field.
  • Three years of GIS experience preferred, or a master's degree with GIS and spatial analysis experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GIS and remote sensing techniques, including data management, image classification, accuracy assessment, metadata, and spatial analysis.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Pro and related GIS technologies.
  • Ability to create high-quality maps, visualizations, and technical reports.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Interest in conservation, natural resources, and land stewardship

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Manage geospatial data for conservation projects, easements, and monitoring—including compilation, QA/QC, maintenance, and dissemination
  • Support landowner enrollment and project delivery by screening eligibility, developing boundaries, and reviewing property documentation with program staff
  • Conduct spatial analyses and landscape-scale conservation planning in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams
  • Create maps, reports, and other products that communicate results, project status, and conservation outcomes to diverse audiences
  • Produce GIS documentation for easement establishment, baseline reports, monitoring, and habitat delivery reporting
  • Clearly document methodologies and analytical approaches for internal and external use
