Job Description
The Ancillary Technician must demonstrate strong attention to detail, accuracy, efficiency, professionalism, and compassion when interacting with patients. The position requires the ability to learn and perform a variety of diagnostic tests and imaging procedures in accordance with physician orders, clinical protocols, and Solinsky EyeCare standards.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Perform preliminary diagnostic testing and ocular imaging as assigned by the physician and/or clinical leadership prior to the patient's examination.
- Obtain high-quality diagnostic images and test results while ensuring proper patient positioning, instruction, and cooperation.
- Perform diagnostic testing and imaging, which may include, but is not limited to:
- OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography)
- Fundus photography
- External photography
- Visual field testing
- Corneal topography
- LipiScan
- TearLab
- InflammaDry
- Color vision testing
- Stereo testing
- VEP
- ERG
- HRT
- Fluorescein angiography (FA), as trained and authorized
- Other diagnostic testing and imaging introduced by the practice
- Verify the patient's identity and ensure the appropriate tests are completed based on the patient's visit type, physician orders, and established clinical protocols.
- Provide patients with clear instructions regarding diagnostic testing and explain procedures in a professional and reassuring manner.
- Monitor patients throughout testing and promptly communicate any concerns, difficulties, or unusual findings to the appropriate clinical team member.
- Ensure all diagnostic testing and imaging is properly documented and accurately entered into the patient's electronic medical record.
- Review images and test results for technical quality and repeat testing when necessary to obtain usable diagnostic information.
- Maintain and operate diagnostic equipment according to manufacturer recommendations and Solinsky EyeCare procedures.
- Identify and report equipment issues, malfunctions, or maintenance needs to appropriate leadership.
- Maintain clean, organized, and appropriately stocked testing areas and equipment.
- Follow all infection control, patient safety, HIPAA, and OSHA requirements and established practice protocols.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and protect patient information at all times.
- Work efficiently to maintain appropriate patient flow and minimize delays in the clinical workflow.
- Communicate effectively with Ophthalmic Technicians, physicians, and other members of the clinical team regarding completed testing and any issues encountered.
- Demonstrate willingness and ability to learn new diagnostic equipment, testing procedures, and clinical skills as required by the needs of the practice, generally within six months of their introduction.
- Willingness to travel to satellite offices as needed. Reliable transportation is required.
- Assist with other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Clinical Leadership and SEC Management.
