Job DescriptionPhlebotomy Trainer

Location: Greater Chicago Area (Travel Required)
Job Type: Full-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt
Pay Range: $20.00 – $22.00 per hour

Position Summary

Trilab Health is seeking a motivated and experienced Phlebotomy Trainer to support the onboarding, development, and ongoing competency of our phlebotomy team across multiple client locations. This role is responsible for training new and existing phlebotomists, ensuring adherence to Trilab Health's standards, and helping maintain exceptional client service. The ideal candidate is a skilled phlebotomist with strong communication and coaching abilities who enjoys traveling and building relationships with both employees and clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct hands-on onboarding and training for new phlebotomists at various client sites.
  • Assess employee competency and provide coaching to ensure compliance with company procedures and best practices.
  • Train staff on proper specimen collection, labeling, handling, documentation, infection control, and safety protocols.
  • Ensure all training aligns with CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, and company policies.
  • Learn and adapt to each client's workflows, expectations, and operational requirements.
  • Serve as the primary training resource for new site launches and coverage at client locations.
  • Travel throughout the Greater Chicago area and, as needed, to Central Illinois to provide onsite training and operational support.
  • Conduct follow-up evaluations and refresher training to maintain quality standards.
  • Work closely with Operations, HR, and Laboratory leadership to identify training needs and support employee development.
  • Assist with developing and updating training materials, SOPs, and competency checklists.
  • Monitor trainee progress and provide regular feedback to leadership.
  • Maintain accurate training documentation and competency records.
  • Provide occasional phlebotomy coverage at client sites during staffing shortages or operational needs.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional healthcare education preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-6 years of phlebotomy experience, with experience training or mentoring others preferred.
  • National Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of venipuncture techniques, specimen handling, and laboratory best practices.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple training assignments.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel extensively throughout the Greater Chicago area with occasional travel to Central Illinois.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic computer applications.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements.
  • Ability to travel between multiple client sites on a regular basis.
