Job Description: Yard Operations & Equipment Technician
FLSA Status: Hourly Non-exempt position
Benefits eligibility: 60 days after hire date
Full Time
Reports to: Fleet Manager
Job Purpose: Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and efficient yard while supporting the maintenance, storage, accountability, and mobilization of company equipment, tools, vehicles, trailers, and materials. This position helps ensure company assets are properly maintained, readily available for use, and that the yard operates safely and efficiently in support of field operations.
Job Duties:
Yard Operations
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional yard at all times.
• Mow, weed eat, trim vegetation, and maintain the appearance of the yard and surrounding property.
• Keep storage areas, laydown yards, parking areas, and workspaces clean and free of debris.
• Assist with loading, unloading, staging, and organizing equipment and materials.
Equipment Support
• Clean, inspect, pressure wash, and perform basic preventative maintenance on heavy equipment, small equipment, trailers, and tools.
• Grease equipment, change fluids, replace filters, and perform other routine maintenance as assigned.
• Assist the Fleet Manager with diagnostics and repairs as training and experience permit.
• Tag and report damaged, defective, or unsafe equipment immediately.
Inventory & Asset Control
• Organize and maintain company tools and equipment.
• Assist with periodic inventory counts.
• Verify tools and equipment are returned to their designated storage locations.
• Help identify missing, damaged, or unserviceable assets.
• Assist with preparing equipment for mobilization and demobilization.
• Assist in maintaining accurate equipment, tool, and material accountability by ensuring assets are returned to their designated storage locations and reporting missing or damaged items properly.
Field Support
• Assist field crews with loading and unloading equipment and materials.
• Prepare equipment and tools for upcoming jobs.
• Deliver or pick up equipment, parts, or materials as authorized.
• Assist with emergency equipment needs when requested.
Safety & Housekeeping
• Follow all company safety policies and wear required PPE.
• Maintain safe work areas and promptly remove hazards.
• Properly dispose of waste, oils, filters, and hazardous materials.
• Report unsafe conditions immediately.
Skills/Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent knowledge and experience required. Field experience and a working knowledge of construction equipment, yard operations, and general construction principles are preferred. Previous experience in construction, equipment, fleet, or yard operations is preferred. Experience operating, maintaining, and performing basic repairs on heavy construction equipment is a plus. Basic mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn equipment maintenance are required. Ability to safely operate forklifts, skid steers, tractors, and other yard equipment, or the ability and willingness to be trained. Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, initiative, dependability, and reliability are essential. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also working effectively as part of a team and following directions. Must be able to prioritize tasks, maintain an organized yard, demonstrate excellent attendance, and maintain a positive attitude with a willingness to assist wherever needed.

Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
