JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education Required
-
Must have an Associate of Science degree and be a graduate from an approved school of Medical Technology. Must be registered as a medical technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or be registry eligible.

Experience
-
Training accomplished in an approved school of medical technology desirable. Previous experience in a clinical laboratory desirable.

Physical

This is a safety sensitive position. Please see the St. Bernards Substance Abuse Policy for further information.

Normal hospital environment. Close eye work. Hearing within normal range. Exposure to biological and mechanical hazards. Operates various lab analyzers, centrifuges, microscopes, lab refrigerators and freezers, alarm systems, incubators, rotators, water baths, safety hoods, incinerators, PC’s, computer terminals and printer, telephone. Frequent standing and walking. Occasional sitting and bending. Lifting, carrying, pushing / pulling up to 50 lbs.

JOB SUMMARY
-
Medical technologist will perform various chemical, microscopic, bacteriological, and immunological tests to obtain data used in diagnosis and treatment of disease. Insure that the QC and maintenance is performed as appropriate. Teach MT and MLT students. Instruct new technologist, technicians, and lab assistants. Assist with trouble shooting instruments as appropriate. Assist in requisitioning necessary supplies,reagents, and blood components. Attendance is an essential function of this job.
