Position Description
Develop schedules for large or multiple smaller construction projects involving complex scheduling activities. Revise and review project schedules with the project team, and monitor and track progress against defined timelines.
Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities
Develop a thorough understanding of the work breakdown structure and its importance across large or multiple smaller construction projects with complex scheduling needs.
Build strong relationships with project stakeholders to communicate the overall project plan, support project performance, and promote the value of scheduling.
Collaborate with the project team (e.g., Engineer and Superintendent) to confirm the Contract Item List (CIL), develop Required On Job (ROJ) dates, and review procurement schedules to track and assess subcontractor commitments.
Partner with the project team to develop Critical Path Method (CPM) logic-based baseline schedules using appropriate scheduling software.
Review and recommend decisions related to work performance, including scheduling, delivery, logistics, and trade staffing levels.
Evaluate schedule deliverables prior to publication or distribution; challenge assumptions and verify accuracy of schedule content.
Collaborate with project departments (e.g., Preconstruction, Commissioning, Procurement, Construction) to develop detailed and integrated schedules.
Engage with the Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) team to align and coordinate schedules with project models.
Define schedule performance metrics and monitor critical path activities to achieve forecasted completion dates.
Provide data and insights for updating project schedule dashboards.
Develop target comparison models and look-ahead schedules; present findings, identify risks, and create recovery strategies to maintain schedule adherence.
Analyze and challenge project performance using As-Built vs. Planned schedule data.
Review Pull Plans, revise schedules accordingly, and incorporate Last Planner® System principles.
Collaborate with the project team to identify events, manage change orders, and assess schedule impacts through time impact analysis.
Participate in occasional travel and project site progress walks as required by Smith Group of Americas project teams.
Generate scheduling reports and summaries based on client requirements; provide monthly progress updates for Operations Review Meetings (ORMs) and other project reviews.
Support and mentor other schedulers within Smith Group of Americas to strengthen proficiency in scheduling software, construction sequencing, and methodologies.
Collaborate with Business Development and Marketing teams to support proposal development, including scheduling strategies and deliverables.
Develop and maintain cost- and/or resource-loaded schedules as required.
Apply continuous improvement methodologies to enhance scheduling processes and performance.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Building Construction, or a related field, with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Experience working on large construction projects (>$50M)
Prior experience in construction roles (e.g., Field Engineer, Assistant Superintendent, or similar)
Proficiency with scheduling software (e.g., Oracle Primavera P6)
Familiarity with scheduling analysis tools (e.g., Acumen Fuse, SmartPM)
Strong knowledge of construction processes, materials, systems, market conditions, and trade practices
Ability to interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, and scopes of work to develop accurate schedules
Understanding of procurement and bid packaging scope breakdowns
Familiarity with earned value management and resource-based productivity validation
Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to quickly understand project requirements
Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and gather critical project information
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and collaborative tools
Willingness to travel as project needs require
