POSITION SUMMARY

The Compounding & Blending Manager is responsible for the safe, accurate, compliant, and efficient operation of material staging, pre-weigh, blending, and bulk product transfer activities. The Manager ensures materials are properly staged and weighed, formulas and batch instructions are followed, equipment is correctly set up, and line connections and flushes are completed on time to support the production schedule. Working closely with Planning, Maintenance, Quality Control, and other cross-functional teams, this role drives product quality, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and a safe, well-managed work environment.

SUMMARY OF ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
This position includes but is not limited to:

Operations & Production Management

  • Oversee daily pre-weigh and blending operations to ensure batches are completed accurately, safely, and on schedule
  • Ensure materials are properly staged, verified, and available for production
  • Coordinate seamless transfer of product to filling lines
  • Monitor throughput, capacity, and productivity against targets
  • Oversee the receipt and verification of raw material deliveries, ensuring accuracy, proper documentation, and timely availability for production.

Batch Accuracy & Execution

  • Ensure strict adherence to formulas, batch sheets, and work instructions
  • Oversee weighing, measuring, and material additions for accuracy and traceability
  • Partner with Quality to ensure all products meet specifications prior to release, working closely with the team to evaluate and implement any required batch adjustments with Quality direction

Scheduling & Resource Planning

  • Plan daily staffing, shift coverage, and priorities based on production needs
  • Collaborate with Planning to ensure production readiness and raw material availability
  • Identify and resolve schedule gaps, delays, and output variances

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce all safety policies, PPE requirements, SDS guidelines, and chemical handling procedures
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and internal quality standards
  • Maintain accurate batch documentation, logs, and regulatory records
  • Promote a strong safety culture with proactive hazard identification and incident prevention

Inventory & Materials Management

  • Monitor raw material levels, usage, and discrepancies to prevent shortages
  • Ensure proper labeling, identification, and segregation of materials and blends
  • Coordinate with Warehouse and Purchasing to maintain material flow

Equipment & Facility Management

  • Oversee proper use and cleaning of tanks, mixers, pumps, hoses, and measuring equipment
  • Partner with Maintenance to address equipment issues and improve reliability
  • Ensure sanitation and changeover procedures are properly executed to prevent contamination or cross-mixing

Leadership & Team Development

  • Supervise, coach, and develop pre-weigh and blending personnel
  • Set clear expectations and cultivate a culture of safety, quality, productivity and accountability across the team
  • Train employees on procedures, equipment operation, and best practices
  • Drive engagement, teamwork, and continuous skill development
  • Hands-on leader who leads by example and sets the standard for performance, accountability, and professionalism.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve batch accuracy, reduce waste, and increase efficiency
  • Implement Lean initiatives and process improvements to reduce downtime, minimize variability, and enhance overall operational efficiency.
  • Track and analyze key performance metrics including throughput, rework, and labor efficiency

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Warehouse, Planning, and Customer Service to resolve issues
  • Communicate batch status, delays, shortages, and risks proactively
  • Support troubleshooting of formulation and process issues (e.g., viscosity, color, contamination)

Key Success Metrics

  • Accurate, right-first-time batch production
  • On-time support of production schedules
  • Reduction in rework, waste, and downtime
  • Safe operation with minimal incidents
  • Strong team performance and engagement
  • Clean, organized, and audit-ready work environment

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in manufacturing, blending, or batch process operations with leadership responsibility
  • Strong knowledge of chemical blending, compounding, and material handling processes
  • Experience with production scheduling, capacity planning, and Lean principles
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (Dynamics preferred)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout a manufacturing facility
  • Ability to lift and handle materials as needed

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing environment with moderate noise
  • Exposure to chemicals, dust, and fumes with proper PPE requirements
