Job Description

Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) is looking for a Payroll & Accounts Receivable Manager to manage, both directly and through staff, the support functions within the Payroll & Accounts Receivable business unit – this includes training, high-impact projects, and account reconciliation.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide day-to-day supervision of assigned Payroll & Accounts Receivable staff including assessing performance and work quality in accordance with established standards, coaching and developing staff, and promoting opportunities for staff training and development.
  • Lead the development, planning and execution of high-impact projects and initiatives related to employer reporting and employer engagement.
  • Oversee regular reconciliations of employer accounts and assist staff as necessary to ensure reconciliations are completed timely and accurately.
  • Work with staff to identify gaps in educational materials and work to close those gaps by developing and maintaining employer training presentations and resources.
  • Prepare work papers, reports and analysis in preparation for external and internal audits as required; work closely with the Assistant Director, Employer Reporting to review and respond to findings or recommendations from both internal and external audits.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business or related field with five years of progressive experience
  • -OR a post-secondary degree and seven years related work experience

    -OR any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience

  • Prior supervisory or team leader experience with a demonstrated ability to lead and motivate staff.
  • Proficient in Excel at the Intermediate level
  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • College degree
    • Prior experience analyzing payroll files

    The anticipated starting salary is typically near the minimum of the pay range. Initial placement within the range will be determined based on the successful candidate's relevant education, experience, skills, and other job-related qualifications.

    • Parental leave - Paid parental leave for childbearing and adoption is available to an employee for up to 42 calendar days to support new parents in bonding and caring for a new child. Additionally, unpaid leave may also be available, under the Family and Medical Leave Act .
    • Voluntary Deferred Compensation – Save additional pre-tax funds for retirement in a 457(b) and 401(a) accounts through payroll deductions.
