Job Description
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Controls Engineer in Canada.
This role offers a hands-on opportunity to work across the full lifecycle of industrial control systems, from initial design through commissioning and field support. You will contribute to the development of advanced vapor control solutions used in FGRU, VRU, VCU, and biogas applications, supporting critical environmental and energy infrastructure. The position combines engineering design, system programming, and on-site troubleshooting, giving you ownership of projects from concept to startup. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including engineering, sales, and field operations, to deliver high-quality, compliant systems. This is a highly technical and field-oriented role with significant exposure to real-world industrial environments. It is well suited for engineers who enjoy problem-solving, system integration, and seeing their designs deployed in the field.
- Own the electrical and controls scope of assigned projects from design through commissioning and field support.
- Develop detailed control system designs, including electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, interconnection drawings, and panel layouts.
- Prepare control panel specifications, PLC panels, MCCs, VFDs, bills of materials, and instrument data sheets.
- Create control narratives, cause-and-effect diagrams, and develop PLC/HMI programming for industrial control systems.
- Review project requirements, identify gaps or ambiguities, and proactively resolve technical issues.
- Support field commissioning, startup activities, troubleshooting, and ongoing service for deployed systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver compliant and high-performance control solutions.
- Contribute to proposals, estimates, and technical documentation in support of project delivery.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards including CSA, NEC, NFPA, and TSSA requirements.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in controls engineering or industrial automation environments.
- Strong experience designing electrical systems, control panels, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Hands-on experience with PLC and HMI programming in industrial applications.
- Solid understanding of Canadian Electrical Code, CSA, NEC, and related safety and design standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently on complex systems.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with engineering and field teams.
- Nice to have: experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, refinery, or biogas industries.
- Additional advantage: exposure to hazardous area design (CSA, ATEX, IECEx), SCADA/HMI platforms (Ignition, Wonderware, Indusoft), PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider, GE/Emerson, Triconex), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and commissioning/troubleshooting in industrial environments.
Benefits:
- Hands-on project ownership across the full engineering lifecycle, from design to field commissioning.
- Opportunity to work on impactful industrial and environmental control systems.
- Field exposure with travel opportunities (approximately 30–50% depending on projects).
- Collaborative and technically driven engineering environment.
- Strong focus on professional development, learning, and technical growth.
- Opportunity to work alongside experienced subject matter experts in industrial automation.
- Culture built on respect, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
