Job Description

Position Summary The Dean of Technical Studies serves as the primary academic leader for the Technical Studies division, providing visionary oversight for programs in engineering technologies, information technologies, business, and related disciplines. Reporting to the Vice President of Academics, the Dean aligns divisional operations with the College’s mission and strategic plan, championing student success, equity, and data-informed decision-making.

This role has a hiring range of $99,000.00 - $115,500.00 USD Annually with a potential maximum of $190,000.00 within this pay band.
Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

• Develop and execute a multi-year divisional strategic plan aligned with regional workforce needs.

• Serve on the President’s Extended Cabinet and lead accreditation and continuous quality improvement efforts.

• Champion a student-centered culture prioritizing access, equity, retention, and completion.

Academic Divisional Leadership

• Oversee instructional quality, curriculum design, and course delivery for rigorous learning experiences.

• Recruit, mentor, and evaluate faculty and staff; oversee program reviews and academic scheduling.

• Lead academic planning, including environmental scanning for new program development and discontinuation.

Financial & Fiscal Management

• Develop and monitor annual operating budgets; conduct resource forecasting and cost-benefit analyses.

• Pursue revenue-generation opportunities, including grants and workforce development contracts.

• Ensure transparent and accountable fiscal practices aligned with strategic priorities.

Partnerships & Engagement

• Cultivate strategic relationships with K-12 districts (dual enrollment), industry partners, and four-year institutions.

• Participate in regional economic development planning to position the College as a key talent pipeline partner.

Culture of Respect (The "Three R's")

• Actively model and reinforce Respect, Responsiveness, and Responsibility.

• Foster an inclusive environment and serve as a liaison between the CAO’s office and divisional stakeholders.

• Cultivate psychological safety through open dialogue and a growth mindset.


Minimum Qualifications

Education: Master’s degree in a Technical Studies discipline, Higher Education Administration, or Educational Leadership.

Experience: Current or recent college-level teaching experience; minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible higher education leadership.

Skills: Proven record in budget management, staff supervision, and commitment to inclusive excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.).

• Five (5) or more years of academic leadership experience, preferably in a community college setting.

• Success in grant writing, regional accreditation, and K-12/workforce partnership development.

Core Competencies

• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

• Proficiency in data analysis and institutional research interpretation.

• Ability to lead decisively in ambiguous or rapidly changing environments.
