About the Role:

The Driver position is critical to ensuring the safe and timely transportation of residents. This role is primarily responsible for transporting residents in a safe, responsible manner to scheduled appointments and other activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing routes efficiently, reading maps accurately, and coordinating with residents. This position assists residents on and off transportation vehicles, including helping residents when away from facility.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ability to read and comprehend memos, reports and a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral and diagrammatic or schedule form.
• High School education or GED preferred, but not required.
• Must have a valid driver’s or chauffeur’s license.
• Strong understanding of transportation management principles and safety protocols.
• Ability to pass a background check and meet health screening requirements.
• Ability to pass a Drug Screen
• Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), (not preferred but recommended)

Responsibilities:

• Drive community vehicles for purpose of transporting residents to appointments and other activities/outings; assist residents on and off of vehicles; helps residents with assistive devices such as wheelchairs, walkers, canes, etc.; keep driver’s license and/or chauffeur’s license updated and remains eligible for licensing in accordance with state/federal regulations, if applicable
• Responsible for the maintenance of community vehicles; reports any hazardous conditions, equipment, accidents and/or incidents; maintain necessary travel logs and transportation charges; conduct pre-trip vehicle inspections; report any unsanitary conditions or needed repairs of vehicles to supervisor. Responsible for scheduling resident appointments/requests.
• Communicate effectively with residents to coordinate schedules
• Performs other duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as may be required to meet emergency situations.
• May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
• Must possess and exhibit a strong positive attitude toward customer service and have a genuine interest in geriatric care and uphold the philosophy of the community.
• Ability to convey information on a person-to-person basis clearly and distinctly so that it is easily understood.
• Ability to organize and prioritize.
• Must be available for evening and weekend hours.
• Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
• Must work harmoniously with other community personnel.
• Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level at which they are currently functioning.
• Ability to function in a confidential manner and to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.

Knowledge and Skills:

The required skills of holding a CDL license are essential for ensuring compliance with federal and state transportation laws, which is critical for safe and legal vehicle operation. Strong communication skills support daily interactions with residents ensuring smooth operations and prompt resolution of any issues encountered during transport. The candidate must possess a basic understanding of the mechanical components of a vehicle in order to communicate regarding the maintenance needs and the ability to remain calm under emergency situations and while dealing with multiple tasks.
