Overview

DLH is seeking a Community Engagement Research Assistant to support the Network Coordinating Center (NCC) of the ACTG (Advancing Clinical Therapeutics Globally for HIV and Other Infections) network, one of the world's largest and longest-running clinical trials networks focused on HIV, other infectious diseases, and those living with them. This clinical trials network is led by some of the world’s leading experts in infectious disease and HIV/AIDS in the US and abroad.

This position will be responsible for a variety of technical and administrative tasks to support project staff including maintaining the project website, providing user support for website users, formatting protocol documents, video editing, and other technical and administrative requests. The position will also provide community support, including but not limited to monitoring the ACTG Community Support mailbox, assisting with responses and resolutions, overseeing preparation of the quarterly community newsletter, providing meeting support, updating community rosters in the project database, and maintaining email distribution lists.

Responsibilities 

  • Maintain the project website and portals to ensure accuracy and timeliness of information, organization, usefulness, and consistency throughout the website.
  • Upload final and draft protocols, accrual reports, announcements, communications, other documents, and videos to the project website and intranet. Assist with QC of information on the project website.
  • Monitor the ACTG User Support Help Desk resolving access or other issues and responding to questions from website users.
  • Provide peer review and provide word processing and document formatting support to project staff.
  • Monitor project communications mailbox and distribute messages promptly and correctly to appropriate recipients.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and send meeting invitations for community conference calls and in-person meetings as needed.
  • In collaboration with the Community Coordinator, prepare, distribute, and follow-up on surveys and polls.
  • Attend and support community meetings as needed.
  • Monitor the ACTG Community Support mailbox and assist with responses and resolutions.
  • Draft and distribute community communications that are timely, technically accurate, and grammatically correct. 
  • Oversee and coordinate preparation of the quarterly community newsletter, including managing timelines, tracking article submissions, communicating with contributors, and compiling the newsletter.
  • Maintain and update community rosters on the project website and email distribution lists.
  • Inform the supervisor of all issues and proactively assist in their resolution.
  • Provides backup and/or supplemental support for other task areas as needed. 
  • Travel to in-person meetings (up to 5%). 
  • May be assigned additional duties as required. 

Required Qualifications 

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Sciences, Clinical Research, Communications, Social Sciences, Information Management, or a related field.
In lieu of a bachelor's degree, candidates may qualify with one of the following:
  • Associate degree plus 3 years of relevant professional experience; OR
  • High school diploma/GED plus 6 years of progressively responsible experience supporting clinical research, public health programs, healthcare operations, community engagement initiatives, patient advocacy programs, or federally funded research projects.
Required Experience
  • Minimum 1 year of professional experience supporting clinical research, public health programs, healthcare operations, academic research, community-based research, patient advocacy initiatives, or federally funded programs.
  • Experience drafting, editing, and proofreading professional communications for diverse audiences.
  • Experience managing databases, websites, document repositories, or information management systems.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Required Skills
  • Exceptional written communication, editing, and proofreading skills with strong command of grammar, punctuation, and technical writing principles.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally with researchers, community representatives, and external stakeholders.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience supporting NIH-funded, CDC-funded, HRSA-funded, or other federally funded clinical research or public health programs.
    • Experience supporting HIV/AIDS, infectious disease, health equity, community-based participatory research, or patient engagement initiatives.
    • Familiarity with clinical research terminology, protocol development, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), or human subjects research.
    • Experience using collaboration and project management platforms such as Smartsheet, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, Salesforce, REDCap, or similar systems.
    • Experience managing website content using content management systems (CMS).
    • Experience coordinating meetings, stakeholder communications, customer support, help desk activities, or administrative project support.
    • Basic video editing or multimedia production experience.
    • Experience working with international stakeholders, research sites, or multicultural populations.
    • Professional or lived experience engaging with underserved, marginalized, or vulnerable populations.
    • Multilingual proficiency is a plus.

Basic Compensation: $58,000 - $65,000 yearly salary

The salary range listed reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. The final offer may vary based on skills, experience, geographic location, market conditions, and internal equity. Additional compensation may include performance incentives and program-specific awards. We do not use salary history to determine compensation, in line with applicable law.
