This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced accounting and advisory leader to provide high-level financial guidance to nonprofit organizations while driving meaningful impact across mission-focused sectors. In this role, you will serve as a trusted strategic advisor, delivering CFO-level insights and helping clients strengthen their financial health, operational effectiveness, and long-term sustainability. Working in a collaborative and flexible environment, you will oversee complex client engagements, mentor high-performing teams, and support transformational initiatives. The position combines technical accounting expertise with leadership, consulting, and relationship management responsibilities. You will work closely with executive leaders and boards, helping them navigate financial challenges and strategic opportunities. - Lead accounting advisory engagements for nonprofit organizations, providing CFO-level guidance on financial strategy, operations, and organizational performance.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership teams and boards by delivering actionable insights on financial statements, cash flow management, forecasting, and long-term sustainability.
- Oversee multiple client engagements, ensuring timely delivery of accurate financial reporting, accounting services, and strategic recommendations.
- Drive organizational transformation initiatives through process improvements, technology adoption, standardization efforts, and operational best practices.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships by understanding organizational objectives and tailoring solutions to support mission-driven outcomes.
- Analyze financial performance metrics and key performance indicators, providing recommendations to improve operational efficiency, liquidity, and financial stability.
- Collaborate with internal specialists across accounting, payroll, revenue cycle, compliance, and other service areas to deliver comprehensive client solutions.
- Lead budgeting and forecasting processes while advising clients on financial planning and strategic decision-making.
- Mentor, coach, and develop team members, fostering professional growth, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Support audit readiness, regulatory compliance, and governance processes relevant to nonprofit organizations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- CPA designation preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in public accounting, outsourced accounting, consulting, or nonprofit financial management.
- Demonstrated expertise serving nonprofit organizations in an advisory, accounting, or financial leadership capacity.
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, compliance requirements, and financial reporting standards.
- Required experience with endowments, investment structures, and revenue recognition related to donor contributions.
- Deep understanding of nonprofit-specific topics, including UPMIFA, indirect cost methodologies, audit processes, Form 990 reporting, and long-term financial sustainability planning.
- Proven ability to advise executive leadership teams and boards on complex financial matters and strategic initiatives.
- Experience leading organizational change, process improvement projects, and technology-driven transformation efforts.
- Strong project management, client relationship management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities, with the capacity to translate complex financial concepts into clear and practical guidance.
- Experience managing remote or geographically distributed teams.
- Familiarity with accounting platforms such as QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct, or similar financial management systems.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% as needed.
- Competitive base salary ranging from $142,000 to $195,000 annually, based on qualifications, experience, and location.
