Assistant Director, Palliative Care in San Antonio, Texas at University Health System- San Antonio

POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides strategic and operational leadership for Perinatal, Pediatric, Adult Inpatient, Adult Outpatient Palliative Care, and Inpatient Geriatrics at University Health. Supports the development, coordination, and evaluation of interdisciplinary programs that deliver compassionate, evidencebased care to patients with serious illness across all ages and care settings. Collaborates closely with the Executive Director, physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and other disciplines to ensure highquality, patientcentered care aligned with organizational goals and regulatory standards. Responsibilities include program oversight, staff development, quality improvement, workflow optimization, and integration of palliative and geriatric principles into practice. Promotes education, family support, and care transitions to improve patient outcomes and enhance the experience of patients and families. Plays a key role in expanding service lines, supporting programmatic innovation, monitoring performance metrics, and fostering a culture of excellence in seriousillness care. Ensures that perinatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric palliative care services operate efficiently, sustainably, and in alignment with University Health’s mission to provide compassionate, equitable, and comprehensive care to the community.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Master’s degree in nursing, Healthcare Administration, Social Work, Public Health, or a related clinical or administrative field. Five to seven years of progressively responsible leadership experience preferred. Proven track record in program development, operational management, and qualityimprovement initiatives within a healthcare system, preferably an academic medical center. Background in performance measurement, data analysis, and reporting to support strategic planning and program evaluation. Comprehensive understanding of palliative care and geriatric care principles, evidencebased practices, and regulatory/accreditation requirements preferred. Strong communication, collaboration, and conflictresolution skills with the ability to work effectively with executive leadership, physicians, and interdisciplinary staff. Strong organizational, analytical, and problemsolving abilities with attention to detail and accountability.
