Senior Psychologist Staff

POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES

Interviews juvenile defendants and applicants who are applying for various positions with the Bexar County Juvenile Probation Department such as detention officer, probation officer, residential treatment officer, student intern, or volunteer; provides clinical supervision to Master’s level staff, interns, and practicum students; testifies in court; and performs related duties as required. Job has critical impact on departmental operations and budget. Directly responsible for the safety of self and indirectly responsible for the safety of co-workers. Job responsibilities include supervision and training of mental health staff.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a doctorate in Psychology or related field. One year of supervised postdoctoral experience in clinical psychology, forensic psychology, or a related field. Two years of post-doctoral experience in completing psychological assessments. Experience in training and/or supervising others preferred. Comprehensive knowledge of psychological testing and evaluation techniques. Skill in communicating effectively with hostile, abusive, or irrational individuals. Ability to interpret psychological test and interview results; ability to formulate diagnostic impressions; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, county employees, private attorneys, outside organizations, and the general public. Experience in a correctional environment and/or in conducting forensic psychological evaluations is preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

Must be licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists, or must be eligible to be licensed within 6 months of employment if licensed in another state. Per Texas statutes, must maintain 8 hours of continuing education yearly in forensic assessment.
