Job Description
UConn Health Waterbury Hospital is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant to join our Cardiothoracic Surgery team in Waterbury, Connecticut. The ideal candidate will have experience assisting with cardiac surgery and caring for patients undergoing specialized cardiothoracic surgical procedures.
The Physician Assistant will provide comprehensive care within the scope of licensure and established privileges, including pre-operative and post-operative management, surgical assistance, related diagnostic procedures, and outpatient follow-up care.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform preoperative history and physical examinations and surgical risk evaluations.
- Review diagnostic studies, laboratory results, and imaging.
- Provide patient and family education regarding procedures, medications, recovery, and follow-up care.
- First assist in cardiothoracic surgical procedures.
- Perform endoscopic saphenous vein harvesting and other procedures within established privileges and demonstrated competency.
- Provide support to the postoperative inpatient team.
- Manage patients in the outpatient Cardiothoracic Surgery Clinic in collaboration with the Cardiothoracic Surgeon.
- Coordinate patient care with surgeons and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental activities.
- Participate in call coverage as required.
