About This Position

The Instructor for Human and Social Services is responsible for teaching and teaching-related activities. Involvement in the areas of professional development and scholarship and service to the college and the community is expected. The instructor should be able to master the teaching activities and increase his or her active participation in professional development, scholarship, and service. This position reports to the department chair. This is an in-person, on-site position.

Typical Responsibilities Include:

  • Effective teaching.
  • Employing a variety of appropriate teaching methods to accommodate multiple learning styles (lectures, group work, audio, video, models, labs, and field trips.
  • Demonstrating evidence of the depth of knowledge, background, and continual development in the field of teaching and area of expertise.
  • Participating in the improvement of program courses and curriculum.
  • Participating actively in department and division meetings in a collaborative manner with full-time and adjunct faculty.


To Be Considered You'll Need:

  • A Master’s degree in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited institution
  • Expertise in generalist practice across micro, mezzo and macro levels, with a strong foundation in cultural competence, trauma-informed care, and social justice principles.
  • Specific knowledge of addiction counseling, community corrections, and gerontology.


Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Licensure in Social Work (LISW and LICDC) in good standing
  • Three years of experience in the field of social work.
  • College-level teaching experience, particularly at the community college level.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating addictions counseling, community corrections, and gerontology into instruction or practice.
  • Experience designing and delivering online and hybrid courses.
  • Active involvement in professional organizations (e.g., NASW) or ongoing professional development in relevant fields.
  • Established community partnerships or professional networks in social work-related agencies, particularly in addiction treatment, corrections, or geriatric care.
