About This Position
American Wood Fibers (AWF) is a manufacturer of both consumer and industrial products that are sold to multiple manufacturers as well as pet, agricultural, and home-heating markets. AWF is comprised of 450+ employees and holds operations at 11 locations, generating over $100M in annual sales revenue. We are currently seeking a candidate for the 1st Shift Systems Operator role in our Marion, VA facility.
JOB SUMMARY
Works in a safe, efficient manner to maximize plant operations.
ESSENCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary duties to include, but not limited to the following:
I. SYSTEMS OPERATIONS:
-Perform variety of associated functions to maintain continuous operation of the system and to ensure conformance to production and quality standards.
-Monitor instruments to ensure proper production conditions.
-Regulate or shut down equipment during emergency situations, as directed by supervisory personnel.
-Draw samples of products and conduct quality control tests to monitor processing and to ensure that standards are met.
-Record operating data, such as process conditions, test results, or instrument readings.
-Confer with technical and supervisory personnel to report or resolve conditions affecting safety, efficiency, or product quality.
II. QUALITY:
Maintains and verifies that all current quality assurance measures are being followed and communicated to supervisors, production employees, office personnel, and customers. Assist in the implementation of new procedures as needed.
III. SAFETY:
-Operates equipment as per the SOP, following directions as provided.
-Keeps work area clean and organized.
-Utilizes all of the required PPE as required by the task being performed. THIS IS A HIGH DUST environment and the equipment must be properly maintained while in operation.
-Helps keep others safe in the work place by looking out for them and participating in safety related improvements.
-Follow the safety protocols for the use of mobile equipment.
- Reports any accident, injury, damages to Supervisor immediately.
QUALIFICATONS:
High School Diploma or GED
Machine operation requires repetitive motion including twisting, bending, and lifting 20-40 pounds, 2-3 times per minute.
Must be able to stand continuously for 8-10-hour shifts.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Standing/Walking: Prolonged periods (up to 12-hour shifts).
- Lifting: Up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Climbing/Bending/Kneeling: Frequent, for equipment access and maintenance.
- Hand Use: Frequent use of hands for controls, tools, and sample collection.
- Environment: High dust, noise, and temperature variation. PPE required.
- Vision/Hearing: Must be able to read gauges, hear alarms, and communicate effectively.
