About the Role:

The Phlebotomist plays a critical role in healthcare by expertly collecting blood and other biological samples from patients for diagnostic testing and analysis. This position ensures that samples are collected safely, accurately, and with minimal discomfort to patients, adhering to strict protocols and hygiene standards. The Phlebotomist collaborates closely with laboratory personnel to prepare samples for various analytical tests, including chromatography and spectroscopy, which are essential for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. Attention to detail and proficiency with laboratory equipment are vital to maintain sample integrity and support reliable test results. Ultimately, the Phlebotomist contributes to patient care by facilitating timely and precise laboratory analyses that inform clinical decisions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program.
  • Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (e.g., CPT, PBT) from a recognized certifying body.
  • Demonstrated experience in venipuncture and sample collection techniques.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and infection control standards.
  • Basic understanding of laboratory equipment and sample handling procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a clinical laboratory or healthcare setting involving analytical testing.
  • Familiarity with chromatography techniques, including gas chromatography, and spectroscopy methods.
  • Additional certification or coursework in laboratory sciences or chemistry.
  • Proficiency in using laboratory information systems (LIS) for sample tracking and data entry.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with patients and healthcare team members.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures on patients of all ages following established safety and quality protocols.
  • Prepare and label samples accurately to ensure proper identification and traceability throughout the testing process.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment related to sample preparation, including devices used in chromatography and spectroscopy.
  • Collaborate with laboratory technicians and healthcare providers to ensure samples meet analytical requirements and are processed efficiently.
  • Maintain detailed records of sample collection, patient information, and equipment maintenance in compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Adhere to infection control and safety standards to protect patients, staff, and self during all procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation of samples for analytical tests such as gas chromatography and wet chemistry analyses.
