Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, widely recognized as one of New York’s premier human services providers, is a settlement house founded in 1894 that provides an extensive array of effective and integrated services—social, educational, legal, health, housing, mental health, nutritional and fitness—which significantly improve the lives of 16,000 people in need each year, ages 3 to 103, on the East Side of Manhattan. Lenox Hill Neighborhood operates two Older Adult Centers, the Center @ Lenox Hill Neighborhood House and the Older Adult Center @ Saint Peter’s Church, serving adults 60 and older from diverse backgrounds and abilities (from the very active to the very frail) residing in New York City. The Center @ Lenox Hill Neighborhood House provides an incredible array of expansive programming that attracts 350 older adults daily while providing a broad range of invaluable public health, case management, fitness and aquatics, health and wellness, arts and culture, education and socialization activities 7 days a week. The Older Adult Center @ Saint Peter’s Church, the only older adult center in East Midtown, attracts 150 older adults daily, serving farm to table lunch and offers a full schedule of social, legal, health, and unparalleled arts and cultural offerings 5 days a week.

Hourly Rate: $27.50/Hour with a weekly schedule of 12 to 20 hours per week

The Program Assistant (Part-time) will be an integral member of our Older Adult Centers, joining other administrative staff, social workers, program assistants and numerous volunteers who serve our members each day. Reporting our Administrative Program Manager, who oversees our team of program assistants, the Program Assistant (Part-time) will be a key point of contact for members and staff at our Center front desk and will be responsible for assisting with all administrative, customer service and operational functions of our Older Adult Centers.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Interface daily with members at the Center front desk, providing information and support, fielding questions and responding to member needs
  • Play a critical role in communicating the vast array of programming and service offerings to our members daily
  • Support the distribution of healthy farm-to-table meals to our Older Adult Center members
  • Welcome and orient new members and ensure accurate documentation of new membership applications in databases
  • Interface with and help coordinate volunteers and instructors
  • Help to create, maintain and distribute sign-up sheets and other documentation to ensure accurate tracking of activities and programs
  • Maintain and input accurate information and data in appropriate databases about members, schedules and volunteers for tracking and program evaluation
  • Help facilitate day-to-day operations of our Older Adult Centers and ensure they are conducted in accordance with our high-performance standards and government regulations
  • Collaborate with Lenox Hill Neighborhood House’s staff from a variety of departments and disciplines
  • Complete all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Administrative Program Manager

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the role of Program Assistant (Part-time) thrives in a highly social and busy community setting and is committed to working with older adults to improve their quality of life. The person should possess the interpersonal skills to work effectively with many diverse backgrounds. The candidate will be compassionate, energetic, organized and self-motivated, and creative and thoughtful in providing programming and services for older adults. As part of a collaborative team, the person must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders and be a team player. High school diploma or GED required; fluency in either Spanish or Chinese is preferred.

The Program Assistant (Part-time) will work 12 – 20 hours a week. Given our 7-days-a-week operating schedule, we are actively recruiting for the following open shifts: Saturday and Sunday 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.; and Friday and Monday between the hours of 7:30 – 6:00 p.m.
