Central Sterile Manager at CareWell Health – East Orange, New Jersey

Job Summary

Plans, directs, coordinates and supervises all activities within Central Service. In addition, oversees Endoscopy staff reprocessing of all endoscopes and OR staff’s performance in immediate-use steam sterilization processes

Essential Functions

• Directs, supervises and coordinates the activities of Central Sterile Processing personnel
• Provides continuing education and review of various techniques on a regular basis
• Oversees cleaning of intubation items on code cart and reports on contamination of clean supplies at IC
• Maintains an appropriate inventory of reusable equipment and instruments
• Assures that details of written departmental procedures concerning the technicalities and principle of proper sterilization, distribution, inventory control, and infection control are strictly adhered to
• Assures that necessary records are accurately maintained to sterilizers, preventive maintenance agreements, and equipment
• Assures that requirement of The Joint Commission, State Department of Health and OSHA concerning Central Sterile Processing is adhered to.
• Develops changes in procedures as necessary.
• Adheres to policy concerning the loaning and borrowing of equipment
• Cooperates with neighboring institutions for the request of sterilization
• Participates in the development of budget preparation annually
• Participates in Infection Control and ad hoc Committees
• Approves changes in products or equipment used within Central Sterile Processing after an evaluation
• Performs work of departmental employees as needed
• Performs other duties of the department as requested

Minimum Education/Certifications
BA or BS degree preferred.

Must be certified under the State of New Jersey Central Service Association or equivalent.

Must have obtained a certificate in leadership, such as CHL through International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM)

Strong medical background. Certification in sterile processing and management skills.

Minimum Work Experience
2 years supervisory or management experience preferred.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Must be willing to work holidays, weekends and provide additional coverage as needed

Working Conditions: Moderate physical work; intermittent exposure to one or more unpleasant physical conditions. Ingenuity and judgment are required to plan work, deal with factors not easily evaluated, interpret results, draw conclusions and take or recommend action.
