Job Description

The Patient Service Specialist (PSS) is responsible to for clerical duties associated with providing excellent patient customer service related to clinical tasks. The PSS is responsible for chart preparation, prior authorization of medications, management of the back office message pool, management of the incoming fax folder, answering patient calls to direct them to the appropriate member of the clinical team, ensure patient medication refills are process timely and referring patient to clinical triage as necessary. The PSS is knowledgeable about the organization to assist patients when needed. CMH Caregivers contribute to CMH success by providing exceptional service that is respectful, compassionate and customized to the individual’s needs by anticipating and exceeding expectations.
Job Requirements
Knowledge of/Skill/Ability to:
PSS’s are required to have strong communication, organizational and problem-solving skills; are able to flow between tasks; exercise independent judgment as needed and perform assigned duties in a fast paced, dynamic environment. A working knowledge of general office equipment including; computer, fax, scanner, and multi-line phone system. Medical terminology is preferred. Ability to type with accuracy and minimal error including 10 key. CMH Caregivers have patience; attentiveness; clear communication skills; excellent time management skills and a calming presence. PSS’s must have attention to detail and be able to accurately perform data entry.
License/Certification
None
Education and/or Experience
Medical terminology knowledge required. 1 year experience in outpatient clinical setting required.
Physical Demands and Work Environment Conditions / ADA Compliance
Position involves standing, walking, stooping, and occasional carrying and lifting or lightweight materials (up to 20 pounds). May be required to sit for extended periods of time. Requires visual acuity and depth perception to recognize words and numbers; and hand and finger dexterity and hand/eye coordination to use a computer keyboard and common office equipment. Potential for contact with blood, body fluids or tissues.
