About This Position

Job Summary

Reporting to the Health and Social Director, the Wellness Services Team Lead is responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of support services for Liard First Nation (LFN) members. The incumbent, in partnership with the Health and Social Director, will liaise with other organizations and governments to build effective partnerships and obtain resources related to support services for LFN members. This is a supervisor position and will be the lead of the support services team.

Main Duties:

  • Provide support to planning, organizing, implementing, and maintaining support programs and services for Liard First Nation, incorporating input from the community and other health professionals.
  • Proactively build and nurture collaborative and respectful relationships with First Nations in Yukon and Northern BC, health partners, and territorial and federal government agencies; utilizing these relationships as avenues to assist the community to achieve its health and wellness goals and objectives.
  • Participate with the Health and Social Director on committees, boards, forums, commissions, meetings and working groups on the national, territorial, and community levels as well as with other First Nations in developing goals, plans, and procedures.
  • Carry out project management responsibilities for program development such as research, leading and facilitating meetings, and preparing discussions, briefings, decision documents, etc.
  • Ensure the development and delivery of support programs for the community.
  • Ensure programs and services follow legislation and organizational policy, processes, and procedures.
  • Liaise with other LFN departments to provide support services to members in need.
  • Provide guidance to support workers for complex cases.
  • Lead a healthy lifestyle grounded in cultural tradition, including achieving work/life balance and engaging in self-care, and promote this to community members and staff.
  • Backfill for the Health and Social Director as required when they are away from the office.
  • Lead and provide day-to-day supervision of support service staff.
  • Foster a cooperative and collaborative working environment through team activities and personal leadership, including the management and resolution of conflicts.
  • Review and approve support service teams leave requests and timesheets.
  • Other duties as required by the Health and Social Director.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, relationship-building skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communications.
  • Ability to work effectively with First Nations, Provincial/Territorial and Federal governments to effectively support and advance First Nation interests.
  • Ability to work pleasantly and effectively with a wide range of people of different ages and cultures, in potentially volatile and emotionally charged situations.
  • Ability to work respectfully with others in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Knowledge of Liard First Nation history, culture, traditional territory, and demographics.
  • Tact, intuition and diplomacy, strong work ethics and good judgment and ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Working advanced knowledge of computer software such as MS Office (Word/Excel/ PowerPoint) and internet.

Education: A post-secondary degree in health work, social sciences, or relevant field and/or equivalency obtained through coursework and/or experience is required.

Experience: Experience providing support services to the First Nation Community. Experience supervising.

Decision Making

This position is responsible to the Health and Social Director and to Liard First Nation Members. The incumbent works independently and takes initiative within established policies, procedures, objectives, and priorities. The incumbent is responsible for being an active participant to accomplish the implementation of a Health and Social department strategy, programs, goals, and activities.

Impact/ Accountability

This position is accountable for compliance with legislation, meeting department goals and work plans, and enforcing standard operational policies and procedures. Proper administration of the support services programs in partnership with the other Departments of Liard First Nation is critical to the well-being of Liard First Nation members.

Working Conditions

This position is required to travel in and out of territory and respond to critical incidents outside of work hours. Some overtime and weekend work may be required. The position mediates, de-escalates, resolves, intervenes, and provides solutions through face-to-face contact and meetings. This position works with a high number of clients experiencing critical incidents and who are under extreme emotional stress.
