Job Description

$10,000 / Two (2) Year Sign On Bonus*

Relocation Assistance - Up To $10,000 per Agreement*

SUMMARY:

This position is filled by a Certified Surgical Technologist First Assist who, as a result of educational and clinical experience in surgical technology, possesses the knowledge and technical skills necessary to assist in operations, under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other surgical personnel. May assist in room set up and positioning patient. May assist surgeon in incision, exposure, clamping, coagulation, packing, placing drains, cannulation/decannulation and suturing.

Responsible and accountable for direct patient care for assigned patients in the perioperative unit. Must be proficient in a wide variety of high level surgical technologist first assist skills. Responsible for adhering to all standards of perioperative care and promoting a team effort among co-workers. Responsible and accountable to know, own and energize the vision, mission, values and standards of the hospital. Functions as a first assistant during surgical incision, excision, repair of pathology, and wound closure throughout the perioperative period on procedures for which privileges have been granted.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduated of certified surgical technology school. Completion of accredited First Assist course.

Experience: One year of CST or CSTFA surgical experience preferred.
Certification: Current Surgical Technologist certification through the Association of Surgical Technologists. BLS required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to perform the following: Must have the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, to solve problems and make decisions. Ability to stand and walk, bend, squat, and twist up to or exceeding 8 to12 hours during shift(s). Occasionally requires lifting of 50 pounds or more of equipment. Occasionally lifts patients with assist 125 pounds or more. Spends eight hours or more in front of computer, monitor or similar screen utilizing keyboard and/or mouse. Must be able to respond quickly in emergency situations of CPR and obtaining equipment. Must be able to handle critical and highly stressful situations with efficiency and composure. Has a keen sense of hearing and keen visual acuity to respond to critical changing patient situations from actual observations and/or equipment alarms. May be subject to inside environmental conditions, hazards (including electrical currents and exposure to high heat and chemicals) and infectious diseases. May have to function around prisoners or mental patients.
