Technical Writer Lead at ELEVATED TECHNOLOGIES LLC – Remote

Position Overview:

Elevated Technologies, LLC is seeking an accomplished Lead Technical Writer to direct and manage teams developing Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) in accordance with S1000D specification. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in defense-related technical publications and a proven record of leading multi-disciplinary teams. This role requires the candidate to possess or be eligible for government clearance and will involve working with engineering, logistics, and program stakeholders to deliver compliant, high-quality technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead a team of technical writers and illustrators in the development of IETMs compliant with S1000D and MIL-STD-40051-2C.
• Act as the primary documentation lead on complex defense programs, ensuring delivery of all technical publications on schedule and within scope.
• Interface with engineering, logistics, and program management teams to define content requirements and technical scope.
• Establish and enforce S1000D authoring standards, data module strategies, and CSDB structures across documentation projects.
• Provide oversight of content planning, development, version control, and validation activities.
• Manage and direct workflows within the CSDB and ensure technical writers complete assignments in a timely manner.
• Coordinate draft IETM for interim and final submissions.
• Guide quality assurance reviews and ensure adherence to customer-specific rules, S1000D, and MIL standards (e.g., MIL-STD-40051, MIL-DTL-87929).
• Mentor junior technical writers and ensure continuous skill development across the documentation team.
• Coordinate with cybersecurity and export control personnel to ensure compliance with secure data handling policies.
• Represent the documentation team in integrated logistics support (ILS) meetings, configuration control boards, and technical interchange meetings (TIMs).

Required Qualifications:

• Possess or be eligible for government clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communications, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional/military experience).
• Minimum 8 years of experience in technical writing with at least 5 years in a leadership role developing IETMs.
• Strong command of S1000D standards and implementation, including structured XML authoring and Common Source Database (CSDB) management.
• Proficient in S1000D-authoring tools (e.g., Arbortext Editor, R4i, Oxygen XML) and content management systems (e.g., SDL Contenta, R4i CSDB) or similar.
• Demonstrated ability to lead large, complex documentation projects from initiation through final delivery.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written communication skills.
• Experience managing remote and geographically distributed teams is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with SCORM-compliant training content, xAPI, and Interactive Multimedia Instruction (IMI).
• Experience with 3D model integration in technical publications (e.g., XVL or JT viewers).
• Prior support of U.S. Army, Navy, or allied military systems through lifecycle documentation programs.
• Knowledge of acquisition logistics, sustainment strategy, and configuration/data management processes.
