About This Position

Performs responsible semi-skilled maintenance, repair or construction work and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the Parks Maintenance Coordinator


  • Plans, supervises, and directs the activities of staff involved in the maintenance of municipal parks and facilities to include trash removal, mowing, weed eating, and blowing, cleaning restrooms, and playground inspections.
  • Ensures restroom facilities are adequately cleaned and stocked.
  • Prepares and maintains work schedules, Cityworks, and personnel records.
  • Oversees special event preparations.
  • Inspects work of crews; performs as crew member when required
  • Daily inspection of equipment and tools at the both the beginning and ending of the workday and reporting any deficiencies for repair.
  • Loading and unloading of tools and equipment at the beginning and ending of the workday, including safely securing tools and equipment during transit and proper storage when not in use.
  • Ensures that the work zone is safe, and all safety measures are in place.
  • Work after hours and weekends as requested/scheduled
  • Loads junk, debris, and bulky waste onto dumps truck to be disposed of at facilities, manually collects and gathers trash, rubbish, junk, old appliances, old furniture, etc. from premises and at illegal dump sites.
  • Performs related tasks as required or assigned.

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and considerable experience in semi-skilled maintenance or construction work and the operation of motorized equipment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

General knowledge of municipal street repair, maintenance and construction practices; general knowledge of ground maintenance and construction practices; general knowledge of the principles and practices of operation and servicing trucks and related medium construction and ground maintenance equipment; general knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation; general knowledge of the occupation hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary to the proper operation of varied construction and maintenance equipment; skill and care in the operation of several types of trucks and construction equipment; ability to follow oral and written directions; mechanical aptitude; ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment; ability to assign and supervise the work of others; ability to prepare simple reports.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling and lifting, frequently requires standing, sitting, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionally requires climbing or balancing and stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm’s length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working in high, precarious places, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather) and exposure to vibration; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
