Reports to: Packaging Department Manager

Location: American Fork/Catalyst

Shift:NIGHTS Monday - Friday, 10pm - 6:30am

JOB SUMMARY: Oversee our retail packaging operations. Ensures that manufacturing remains a smooth and efficient process by monitoring employees and organizing workflows. In a fast-paced environment like production, the supervisor is an integral part of the manufacturing process. This position works closely with the Packaging Manager and Room Leads to manage personnel to direct, coordinate and assist in the day-to-day activities of the production department in the safe, cost-effective, and efficient manufacturing of products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Supervise the performance of the packaging/canning department employees ensuring safe, efficient processing of product while meeting quantitative and qualitative standards for production output, health and safety, HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points), GMP, sanitation and product quality.
  • Demonstrate the ability to operate and troubleshoot all production and packaging equipment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to complete production paperwork from all departments and utilize it for the closing out of production orders.
  • Assist in the management of work force numbers, scheduling, and shift assignment within agreed standards and budget.
  • Lead with a continuous improvement mindset to recommend process or equipment improvements, which would lead to quality or efficiency improvements. Minimize rework or damaged product due to employee handling and processing. Delegate work assignments, troubleshoot operating problems and take preventative or corrective action as needed.
  • Ensure that production reporting is accurate and timely, including weights and lot tracing information.
  • Work effectively with other departments to maximize product quality and plant efficiency. Be hands-on in the production process, when necessary, in all departments.
  • Ensure adequate training is provided for employees in specific work tasks to reduce or eliminate the risk of workplace injuries and to increase your employee’s skillset.
  • Ensure the safe operation of machinery and equipment.
  • Assist in orientation of new hires. Maintain consistent communication with employees; Engage with and promote a positive work environment for all employees. Set an example for employees in professionalism, personal care/hygiene, behavior, and care of workspace. Address and navigate difficult conversations with employees with the assistance from Human Resources.
  • Organize and maintain employee weekly/monthly schedules. Lead daily employee stand up and monthly department meetings.
  • Maintain daily attendance tracking. Complete weekly payroll review and submittal.
  • Responsible for handling employee reviews, one-on-ones with leads and employees, disciplinary actions, incident reporting. Daily input of production reports into inventory database.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE: 

  • Comply with the Environmental Health Safety & Security (EHS&S) policies and applicable regulatory and company EHS&S rules and requirements.
  • Report to supervision conditions or practices that are either unsafe or that may adversely impact the environment, to ensure prompt resolution of potential hazards.
  • Attend scheduled EHS&S training program.
  • Actively support the organization’s efforts to meet or exceed EHS&S goals and plans.
  • Recommend improved EHS&S practices.
  • Practices safe work habits and follows general safety procedures such as proper lifting and bending, ergonomics, proper use of equipment and use of personal protection equipment (PPE).
  • Adheres to and ensures lockout procedures are followed any time the equipment is being cleaned or maintained.

PRODUCT SAFETY AND QUALITY

  • Place high priority on food safety, quality, and sanitation by understanding and executing Thrive Freeze Dry’s food safety, quality, and sanitation policies and procedures.
  • Hold self and others accountable to Thrive Freeze Dry food safety, quality, & sanitation guidelines and policies by communicating any food safety or quality incident, observation, or opportunity to your leadership team or teammates.
  • Adheres to and ensures Product Safety and Quality standards are followed.
  • Adheres to and ensures GMP’s regarding food contact packaging as it pertains to the employee.
  • Adheres to and ensures Thrives food safety, product defense standards and quality objectives complies with all SQF system requirements.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (include education, experience, special skills, licenses and/or certifications required.)

  • College Degree in Business, Operations, Engineering, or relevant field, preferred.
  • 3 years relevant leadership work experience in a manufacturing environment – food manufacturing a plus.
  • Lean/Six Sigma knowledge preferred.
  • HACCP, GMP knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to use all MS applications such as Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and Word.
  • Mechanical skills a plus.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills٫ together with a results-driven approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills both verbally and in writing.
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Self-motivated and an efficient problem solver.
  • Capable of quickly determining priorities and adapting activities to changing production conditions.
  • Able to delegate, supervise, evaluate, and motivate direct reports.
  • Team player with the ability to plan and execute activities and projects.
  • Familiar with change management strategies.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare clear, concise documentation.
  • The possession of quality orientation and attention to detail, problem analysis and resolution.
  • Familiar with Business Central ERP, a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to perform the following functions without accommodations:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours) and perform repetitive tasks.
  • The ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to occasionally work varied shifts
  • Must be able to wear and use the required personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety shoes, hairnets, beard snoods (if applicable), smocks, and other safety gear as needed to maintain hygiene and safety standards.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and fine finger dexterity.
  • The job is performed under occasional temperature variations and in a food manufacturing production environment.
  • Unrestricted visual and audio abilities are required for the safety of all employees.
