About This Position

The purpose of this position is to maintain and perform preventative maintenance on the Reverse Osmosis facility, the wastewater treatment facility, and all lift stations.

This job works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.


The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Completes electrical and mechanical repair work and preventative maintenance for equipment in Wastewater Treatment Facility, Water Supply Facility, lift stations and water wells including equipment, controls, pumps and electrical panels.
  • Maintains facility Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) control systems. Completes testing and troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical problems. Performs calibrations of monitoring equipment.
  • Operates Jet-Vac to clean sewer lines, storm drains and manholes as required.
  • Utilizes various types of other machinery and equipment including backhoe, stand-by pumps, generators, welder, saws, small hand tools, electrical tools and plumbing supplies.
  • Performs welding duties as needed.
  • Performs heavy equipment operation as needed.
  • Identifies and promptly addresses any safety issues related to assigned operations.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
  • Some water, wastewater maintenance, electrical and repair or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class B state commercial driver’s license with an acceptable driving history. Plus air brake and tanker endorsement.
  • FWPCOA Class “C” Collection Certificate is required within one year of eligibility.
  • Intermediate MOT certification, basic electrical and instrumentation and Certified Pool Operator preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Group B

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

  • Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

Unavoidable hazards refer to job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

  • Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
    • Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.
    • Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.
    • Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife.
    • Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors. Chemicals.
    • Traffic; Moving machinery.
    • Electrical shock; Heights.
    • Radiation; Disease/pathogens.
