About This Position

  • JOB SUMMARY
    • Life Safety is responsible for safety related activities to ensure a safe environment for team members, patients, and visitors while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulatory and accreditation agencies. The position will evaluate the organization and monitor the physical environment, communicate safety issues with appropriate leadership and work to provide solutions to help correct identified opportunities. The position will develop, review, implement and participate in all aspects of life safety for the organization to include safety training, present safety in services, safety surveys, fire drills, hazardous and chemical spills, review and implement Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM's), safety related accidents and conduct follow up investigations.
  • DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties:
    • Review, implement and make recommends to Environment of Care programs as needed.
    • Review and implement programs for fire safety and other hazard surveys of hospital and remote facilities to ensure compliance with applicable safety measures.
    • Confers with representatives of management to formulate policies, determine need for programs, and coordinate programs with the organization.
    • Review, implement and develop safety educational programs as needed.
    • Reviews and makes recommendations as necessary for work rules and safety regulations
    • Reviews, implements and makes recommendation to management for Life Safety Program, Interim Life Safety Program, and related Joint Commission regulations, Hazardous Materials program, and construction related compliance issues. Maintain a current Statement of Conditions (SOC) as required by The Joint Commission.
    • Directly or indirectly review all of the required Life Safety Testing and Records to assure current status at all times.
    • Organize components for the annual safety education as the acting Health System Safety Officer along with other key safety leaders to provide mandatory and relevant safety education to all Team Members
    • Provide departmental evacuation plans and updates. Ensures all documentation is present for areas such as Interim Life Safety, Infection Control policies, ceiling permits, hot work permits, de-activation of sprinklers, fire alarm and other life safety systems.
    • Responsible for ongoing assessment of facility conditions and initiation of corrective action for resolution of problem issues.
  • EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
    • Minimum requirement:
      • Prior experience in Life Safety operations.
    • Preferred qualifications:
      • 3 to 5 years’ experience in Life Safety operations.
  • WORKING ENVIRONMENT
    • This job operates in a professional office environment routinely using standard office equipment such as computers.
    • Occasionally requires travel to and from off-site locations
    • The noise level in this position is usually low
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    • Frequently required to maintain a stationary position behind a computer or while presenting to individuals or groups.
    • Frequently required to move about throughout the Medical Center or while rounding.
    • Constantly required to communicate with people electronically, telephonically and in-person requiring talking and hearing.
    • Constantly required to operate a computer and telephone.
    • Constantly required to lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
    • Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
    • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
