Job Description

Position Overview

Product Design Engineers will shape the future of semi-trailer design by developing sophisticated 3D models, conducting structural analyses, and creating manufacturing-ready documentation. The work for this position is at the intersection of customer needs and engineering excellence, turning complex requirements into practical solutions.

Core Responsibilities

  • Spearhead product design initiatives from concept to manufacturing, including the development of detailed 3D models and technical drawings.
  • Create and manage Bills of Materials through our ERP system (Microsoft Dynamics 365), ensuring accuracy and manufacturability.
  • Perform Finite Element Analysis to validate design integrity and optimize structural performance.
  • Partner with sales teams to understand customer requirements and provide technical solutions.
  • Develop design concepts and sales presentations, including detailed sketches and 3D models for customer approval.
  • Guide manufacturing teams through technical challenges while supporting cross-departmental initiatives.
  • Evaluate product feasibility, cost implications, and potential return on investment.
  • Maintain compliance with industry standards and codes while pushing the boundaries of innovation.
  • Research and implement advancements in truck and trailer technology, including loading systems, suspensions, smart trailer technology, and material alternatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in heavy equipment or transportation design, preferably in semi-trailer manufacturing.
  • Proven expertise in 3D CAD modeling with large assemblies, particularly in SolidWorks.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Product Data Management systems, with SolidWorks PDM experience preferred.
  • Strong background in Finite Element Analysis and engineering principles
  • Advanced problem-solving capabilities with a track record of implementing practical engineering solutions.

Technical Skills

  • Expert proficiency in SolidWorks or similar 3D modeling software.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience with ERP systems and product lifecycle management.
  • Fluent English communication skills (Spanish proficiency is advantageous).
