The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources (PRCR) Department is seeking candidates that have a passion for providing exceptional customer service and a commitment to serving others. The Aquatics Maintenance Specialist focuses on providing exceptional experiences for our park patrons by providing service to our aquatic facilities through maintenance and repair of crucial systems that support healthy environments. Raleigh Parks supports four year-round aquatic facilities and six seasonal pools/fountains.

This position will provide maintenance support to the newest park in the City of Raleigh Parks system, Dix Park. Dix Park consists of 308 acres and is currently in the developmental stage. The Gibson Play Plaza is scheduled to open in 2025 and will provide a new and exciting place for recreational activities. This position will be essential to providing maintenance and support of several new aquatic features and water systems at Dix Park – candidate will also assist with maintenance of irrigation systems on site that support expansive landscape features.

About You:
The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong background in maintenance and repair, with specific experience in systems such as water pumps, electrical systems, and lighting. The candidate is skilled in performing advanced maintenance, repairs, and testing of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical equipment, as well as conducting preventative maintenance. The candidate can handle a variety of maintenance tasks, prioritize work requests, and ensure the functionality and safety of equipment and facilities.

The ideal candidate will possess strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving abilities, and good organizational skills. They have the ability to work in both field and office environments, with the capacity to lift heavy loads and handle moderate exposure to various environmental conditions. Additionally, the candidate has strong communication and customer service skills to interact effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and the public.

  • Receives, prioritizes and schedules maintenance and work requests
  • Inspects equipment, tools, materials, facilities, building systems and/or grounds to ensure functionality and safety
  • Secures and opens facilities/spaces and reports and corrects issues to resolve operational deficiencies or unsafe conditions
  • Performs advanced maintenance, repairs and testing of HVAC, electrical and/or plumbing equipment and facilities
  • Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections and lubricates and cleans parts
  • Starts devices followed by listening to sounds and performance testing to complete preventative maintenance

Education and Experience:
Associate's degree in area of assignment and three years of experience related to maintenance and repair of similar systems – water pumps, electrical systems, lighting, etc.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Licensing and Certifications:
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO), or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
  • 2 years of related experience in plumbing, electrical or HVAC work
  • Experience in commercial swimming pool maintenance and operations

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Performing equipment and facility inspections
  • Monitoring safety conditions with attention to detail
  • Organizing, maintaining and updating data, manuals, files and other forms of documentation
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information, receive work direction and provide customer service
  • Operating assigned tools and equipment with comprehension of applicable laws, codes, regulations and standards
  • Business math computations

ADA and Other Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Heavy Work:
Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment); and frequent exposure to intense noise.
