Position Summary
Partnering with senior leadership, this position is responsible for developing the financial framework necessary to profitably scale the company. The Senior Accountant will play a vital role in driving value creation through effective management of financial transactions, ensuring accuracy in reporting, and driving strategic financial decisions alongside the executive team. The Senior Accountant will be involved in all accounting operations and will be accountable for budget, monthly and quarterly close process, general ledger management, reconciliations, cost accounting, fixed asset accounting, accounts payable, local tax filings, financial reporting and analysis, and cash flow management.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Plans, directs and completes accounting functions.
- Assists with monthly close process, including reconciliation and variance analysis to ensure accuracy, completeness and timeliness of resolution.
- Assists in the preparation of and publishes internal and external financial statements.
- Develops, documents, and oversees standardized policies and procedures to ensure the company has proper accounting records and internal controls in order to mitigate risk.
- Identifies relevant KPIs and cost saving initiatives to assist the senior leadership team with effective decision-making tools.
- Assist the Corporate Controller with management of the budgeting and forecasting processes, including the monthly variance analysis, by identifying significant fluctuations.
- Coordinates activities with the company’s external auditors, tax advisers, and other professional advisers.
- Ensures the company meets all financial obligations, including tax filings and compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise junior accounting staff, as needed.
- Assists team members by providing guidance, mentorship, and putting team members in a position to succeed while developing their skills and providing an opportunity for growth.
- Assists in the training of skilled accounting and accounts payable staff members.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Minimum 4 years progressively responsible financial roles; CPA firm experience a plus.
- Experience and knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics AX and/or NetSuite ERP a plus.
- Previous experience in distribution, retail, or wholesale, with a strong understanding of inventory and cost accounting.
- Successful and proven track record of managing closing processes, overseeing financial controls, and financial accounting systems and processes.
- Must be forward-thinking, with the ability to expeditiously execute projects and programs.
- Ability to influence win-win outcomes by building partnerships across the enterprise while aligning expectations and integrating various viewpoints.
- Must be hands-on and detail-oriented, while being able to see the big picture.
- Must be self-directed and willing to roll up their sleeves and assist with a variety of responsibilities as both a player and a coach.
- Must have strong organizational and time management skills, supported by defined processes.
