About This Position

The mission of STEM NOLA is to grow future Innovators, Creators, and Entrepreneurs through inspiration, engagement, and exposure. Members of the community will learn about opportunities in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).

Overview: The STEM Fellows Program Manager position is primarily responsible for the management and expansion of the STEM NOLA STEM Fellows program. The STEM Fellows program is an out of school time program for 9th-12th grade students that allows them to explore areas of interest in STEM fields and prepares them for college and career. Secondarily, the STEM Fellows Program Manager will work with the Education team to develop, coordinate and deliver STEM curriculum and resources to partner education clients, which requires synthesizing complex STEM concepts and organizing them into learning lessons for ages PreK-12. This role includes the development, coordination, and delivery of professional development to teaching professionals in small or large group formats. The STEM Fellows Program Manager will assist the STEM Education Manager in developing and managing relationships with schools, teachers, and organizations, ensuring delivery of high-quality STEM programming. Additionally, will support the role of the Education team in community-based events as needed.

Title: STEM Fellows Program Manager – STEM NOLA

Primary Functions/Responsibilities:

STEM Fellows Program Coordination

  • Develop and execute a year-long out of school program for high school students
  • Create, develop, and maintain relationships with industry and education partners to provide STEM short courses and STEM experiences for high school students
  • Create, develop, and maintain relationships with industry and education partners to provide summer and school-year internship opportunities for high school juniors and seniors
  • Support high school students and families as they look towards post-secondary education and careers, assisting with things like individual goal setting and tracking, external opportunities and scholarships, and college/career decision-making

STEM NOLA Education Programs Support

  • Evaluate, revise, and maintain curriculum for all STEM NOLA activities, including in school and out-of-school programming
  • Evaluate curriculum annually to ensure age-appropriateness and alignment with STEM NOLA mission and current educational standards
  • Deliver in-school programming to large and small groups of PreK-12 students in classes and at events (ex: class sessions, demonstrations, STEM Saturdays, STEM Fests)
  • Develop, deliver, and coordinate trainings to teachers on STEM NOLA curriculum
  • Assist in managing STEM NOLA in-school programming, ensuring that all aspects of program are properly tracked, maintained, and executed.

STEM NOLA Community Programs Support

  • Ensures educational objectives are being reached during community-based programming (STEM SATURDAY, STEM FEST, Out of School time events).
  • May assist in reviewing and revising STEM activities and instruction sheets to ensure readability and consistency of wording to ensure program objectives can be met.

Experience/Skills:

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in STEM field, or equivalent professional experience, required
  • Education experience, preferred
  • Student support experience, preferred

Skills:

  • Ability to grasp, synthesize, and clearly convey complex STEM concepts
  • Ability to present to groups ranging from 4 to 400
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with a variety of audiences
  • Ability to manage time, multi-task, and solve problems
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, and use data
  • Knowledge of STEM content and relevant best practices in STEM education
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite

Other Requirements

  • Flexible work schedule with ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to work on Saturdays and engage in overnight trips.
  • Ability to conduct meetings with teachers and administrators in partner schools/districts
  • Ability to challenge upward, voice unpopular opinions, and carry out resulting Executive directives
  • Ability to engage and articulate STEM NOLA programming in public and on social media
  • Ability to travel a minimum of 33% of the time
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
