Job Description
Position Summary:
The Medical Assistant plays a pivotal role in delivering exceptional customer service within the outpatient physician practice setting at Granville Primary Care Oxford. This clinic is in Oxford, NC. This clinic is open Monday - Friday, closed nights, weekends, and major holidays.
- Perform basic clinical duties including obtaining and documenting vital signs, height, weight, specimen collection, phlebotomy, and simple laboratory procedures.
- Prepare patients for examinations and procedures, including escorting patients to exam rooms and assisting with dressing/undressing as needed.
- Assist physicians and providers during exams, treatments, and in-office procedures.
- Prepare exam and procedure rooms, maintain cleanliness between patients, and ensure rooms are stocked and ready for daily operations.
- Schedule diagnostic testing and follow-up appointments as directed by providers.
- Process prescription refill requests within established provider guidelines and accurately document actions in the patient chart.
- Manage patient phone messages in coordination with front office staff and appropriately route clinical concerns.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical record documentation, including telephone encounters and patient care activities.
- Review patient encounters to ensure services and procedures are properly documented.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate ordering of medical supplies, medications, and clinical equipment.
- Maintain sterile instruments and equipment in accordance with infection prevention standards.
- Support compliance with OSHA, DEA, CLIA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Promote efficient patient flow throughout clinical areas to support timely patient care.
- Identify workflow improvement opportunities and communicate recommendations to leadership.
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality and uphold all organizational policies, procedures, and quality standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support efficient clinic operations and exceptional patient care.
Qualifications:
Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Medical Assistance with experience in phlebotomy, or equivalent clinical experience in a physician office setting. Typing and computer skills; ability to operate any office equipment; ability to stay calm in emergencies; good communication, written and organizational skills; ability to deal with multiple tasks at a time and prioritize accordingly; able to adapt and incorporate any new tasks presented; ability to exercise sound judgement; contribute new ideas and solutions to problems; ability to deal with the public in a professional manner and maintain good relationships with the clinic's personnel and staff physicians; ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
