Office of Administration-Health Sciences - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (26002691)
The Associate Vice Chancellor - Accounting Health Sciences (HS), reports directly to the Vice Chancellor Finance and Resources, HS/Vice Dean Finance, School of Medicine and serves as a senior administrator and advisor to senior leadership of the School of Medicine and Schools of the Health Sciences for financial and administrative matters. The AVC routinely interacts & works with senior management of the schools, University, and UPP (the clinical faculty practice plan which is part of UPMC). The AVC is responsible for overall financial health and stability of the institution. The role requires a strong technical accounting expert with exceptional leadership skills and the ability to thrive in a complex and highly regulated environment. The position serves as a liaison with the University Office of the Controller & the Chief Financial Officer. on reporting the financial activity in the six Health Sciences schools. Developing annual rental rates for buildings managed by the SVC Health Sciences and managing activity in the SVC discretionary accounts are also within the purview of the role.
The School of Medicine is the largest research school in the University, with an annual budget in excess of $700 million, 30+ academic departments and many smaller divisions / institutes / centers. The school has over 4,500 full-time faculty and staff and more than 1,000 students enrolled in MD & graduate programs.
The AVC provides direction to and manages the Office of Finance - Accounting team, currently comprised of eight professionals. This office has broad coordination and oversight responsibility for most financial, staffing, compensation, and non-faculty administrative issues in the School of Medicine. Specific areas of responsibility includes: financial statement preparation, cost and revenue allocation modeling, liaison with University/UPMC/UPP for financial, staffing, and compensation matters; external reporting requirements; interpreting and applying University and School policies and procedures; faculty and staff compensation analysis/review/approval; and providing SVC/School Senior Management with high quality, timely information to support strategy decision making.
Executive positions at the University hold significant responsibility for establishing and implementing goals, policies, procedures, strategic direction, and engagement initiatives within their department or organization.
Essential Functions
Preference for experience in a research-intensive medical school. Knowledge of university policies and procedures. Must possess excellent leadership qualities, organization skills, communication skills and computer skills. Excellent time management abilities are essential to appropriately prioritize projects and requests. Technical skills in accounting, financial, compensation and management areas are essential. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills are required.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m
