What You'll Work On
What We're Looking For
This role is specifically for students participating in the Northeastern University co-op program and is a full-time (40 hours/week), 6-month opportunity aligned to the July–December co-op cycle.
Candidates must be based in the Boston area. While Function Health is a fully remote company, this role includes one week of in-person onboarding in Boston, followed by monthly in-person meetups for the duration of the program.
Function Health is building the most comprehensive health platform on the planet. The Bring Your Biology Online team owns the front door to Function Health. We build and maintain the member app, signup and checkout flows, scheduling and lab-visit experience, membership infrastructure, and the systems that let members bring all of their health data into one place.
This is a high-impact role at the intersection of product engineering and growth. Your work won't stay behind the scenes. It will directly shape how millions of members sign up, manage their membership, schedule their lab visits, and build a complete picture of their health.
You’ll join a small team tackling real, high-impact problems at the core of the Bring Your Biology Online experience:
- Membership and Growth. Help build the systems that power how members discover, sign up, upgrade, and renew their memberships. Work on launching new product offerings, measuring funnel conversion, and overall UX performance, ensuring onboarding is seamless at scale.
- Health Record Onboarding. Build the tools that let members bring all of their health data into Function Health. Work on document retrieval and recognition pipelines that parse and structure medical records, EMR data ingestion, and self-reported health history questionnaire data.
- Scheduling and Lab Experience. Improve the end-to-end experience of how members schedule and complete their lab visits. Work on the scheduling flow, mobile phlebotomy integration, and the checkout and booking systems that connect members to labs and scans across the country.
What We're Looking For
- AI-native workflow. You already use LLMs as a daily tool to write, debug, and reason through problems. You know how to steer a model toward useful output and when to stop prompting and start thinking.
- Strong fundamentals in backend or full-stack development
- Interest in LLMs, agentic systems, and applied AI
- Comfortable working with APIs, data pipelines, and cloud environments (GCP experience is a plus, not a requirement)
- Curiosity about healthcare, clinical data, or how technology can improve health outcomes
- A bias toward making things simpler, not just adding more
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
