About This Position
THIS POSITION IS OPEN UNTIL FILLED.
The Master Electrician performs complex electrical and technical assignments involved in the maintenance, repair and safe uninterrupted operation of electrical systems in the County Facilities. The position has shared accountability for the effective operation of all heating, cooling, plumbing, ventilating, security, fire control and alarm systems and other building automation systems and technology.
The position is designated as the primary internal resource and contact for external contractors and service providers within his/her assigned area of responsibility. Additionally, the position is accountable for mentoring, training, reviewing technical work and providing guidance to Maintenance Technicians on matters relating to electrical facilities maintenance and repair.
The position is also accountable for the performance of general maintenance duties including carpentry, painting, building and equipment repairs and maintenance, office relocations, furniture moving, custodial duties, floor care, exterior maintenance, grounds maintenance and related activities as needed and/or assigned to effectively maintain all buildings and grounds in a manner that ensures operational and service excellence.

The position is also accountable for the performance of general maintenance duties including carpentry, painting, building and equipment repairs and maintenance, office relocations, furniture moving, custodial duties, floor care, exterior maintenance, grounds maintenance and related activities as needed and/or assigned to effectively maintain all buildings and grounds in a manner that ensures operational and service excellence.
- Responsible for planning, laying out, and supervising all electrical work performed by Facilities staff.
- Ensures the necessary electrical permits are obtained for projects or repairs as required by the governing electrical authority and that all work complies with the National Electric Code Safety Standards.
- Maintains County owned electrical equipment to assure the safe and uninterrupted operation of all County Facilities and systems.
- Operates and maintains building automation systems, security systems, fire suppressant systems, lighting systems, and related building technology demonstrating the level of operational expertise and proficiency required to maximize system performance and service excellence.
- Operates and effectively maintains all electrical wiring, apparatus and equipment including motors, controllers, lighting, switches, receptacles, circuit breakers and related equipment/systems resolving problems, performing maintenance, testing and repairs in a timely and effective manner to maximize operational effectiveness and customer service. Communicates with contract service providers to initiate service requests, resolve problems and ensure required services are effectively and efficiently preformed.
- Supports the effective operations of all HVAC systems and related technology resolving problems, performing maintenance, testing and repairs in a timely and effective manner to maximize operational effectiveness and customer service.
- Performs general maintenance duties including grounds care, carpentry, painting, building and equipment repairs and maintenance and related activities to effectively maintain facilities and ensure operational and service excellence.
- Assists with the relocation and construction of workspaces, including workstation assembly and/or disassembly, moving assistance, minor construction or remodeling and related activities as needed in response to internal service requests
- Performs grounds keeping duties including lawn, landscape and hardscape maintenance, seasonal maintenance and snow and ice removal as needed to maintain appearance, functionality and safety of all facilities.
- Responds to service requests in a timely and effective manner, utilizing work order technology, paging devices and related technology as assigned to effectively prioritize and perform open service calls.
- Provides after hours coverage as needed and/or assigned for required facility and mechanical systems inspections and to respond to emergency services needs in a timely and effective manner.
- Performs all other related duties in a professional and effective manner.
- Participants in oversight of work to be performed at other government agencies by CWC as defined by Joint Services Agreements or other agreement types as defined and documented by CWC.
- Class A Master Electrician License with the State of MN, 5 years of experience as a licensed Journeyman Electrician in a Commercial setting.
- Experience in the construction of and/or maintenance of governmental buildings and facilities is desired.
- Considerable ability to read and interpret electrical plans and diagrams and extensive knowledge of the MN Building, Electrical and NFPA codes is essential.
- Valid state issued driver's license
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Second Class C Boilers License.
- Knowledge of and ability to perform the operation, maintenance and control functions of electrical and mechanical systems including HVAC maintenance and repair in a commercial environment.
- Knowledge of and ability to effectively operate building automation and electronic control systems including energy management, security control, fire suppressant and related building management systems in a commercial environment .
- Knowledge and functional understanding of Computerized Maintenance Management Softwares.
- Knowledge of building and safety regulations.
- Ability to independently prioritize and complete work in an effective and timely manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external contacts.
- Ability to problem solve, access internal and external resources and execute timely and sound decisions.
- Knowledge of building and safety regulations, forklift certification desired.
