Position Summary

The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) provides direct patient care and support functions that contribute to exceptional therapy outcomes. Working under the direction of a licensed Physical Therapist, the PTA delivers therapeutic interventions, performs administrative tasks, and promotes a positive and safe environment aligned with facility standards.

Essential Job Functions

Clinical Responsibilities

1. Deliver appropriate, individualized treatment plans as directed by a Physical Therapist.
2. Provide clear guidance and instruction to patients and families.
3. Communicate patient progress, issues, and care plans with supervisors and healthcare team members.
4. Educate families or nursing staff on follow-through programs.
5. Demonstrate knowledge of problem-solving strategies and clinical best practices.

Documentation

1. Accurately record treatment charges consistent with billing practices.
2. Write clear and effective daily treatment notes and progress reports.

Administrative Support

1. Log accurate daily productivity and treatment charges.
2. Assist with scheduling and coordination of patient therapy appointments.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

1. Participate in patient care conferences.
2. Collaborate with staff to support therapy goals and updates.
3. Educate team members in the areas of clinical expertise.
4. Support facility documentation practices.
5. Communicate effectively with discharge planners.
6. Integrate patient and family input into treatment sessions.

Professional Development

1. Utilize continuing education opportunities to meet regulatory requirements.
2. Participate in professional networking and development activities.
3. Present at team conferences and facility in-services.
4. Maintain current clinical knowledge.

Experience and Skills Needed

1. Experience in geriatric rehabilitation is preferred.
2. Additional experience in neurology, cardiac, or general adult rehab is a plus.
3. Knowledge of physical therapy treatment techniques.
4. Understanding of therapeutic modalities and related devices.
5. Familiarity with prosthetics, orthotics, and assistive devices.
6. Proficiency in medical terminology.
7. Ability to work effectively with diverse patient needs.
8. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Education

1. Associate of Science degree from an accredited PTA program.

Qualifications:

1. PTA license obtained in the state of California
2. Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
