About This Position
Position Summary
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) provides direct patient care and support functions that contribute to exceptional therapy outcomes. Working under the direction of a licensed Physical Therapist, the PTA delivers therapeutic interventions, performs administrative tasks, and promotes a positive and safe environment aligned with facility standards.
Essential Job Functions
Clinical Responsibilities
- Deliver appropriate, individualized treatment plans as directed by a Physical Therapist.
- Provide clear guidance and instruction to patients and families.
- Communicate patient progress, issues, and care plans with supervisors and healthcare team members.
- Educate families or nursing staff on follow-through programs.
- Demonstrate knowledge of problem-solving strategies and clinical best practices.
Documentation
- Accurately record treatment charges consistent with billing practices.
- Write clear and effective daily treatment notes and progress reports.
Administrative Support
- Log accurate daily productivity and treatment charges.
- Assist with scheduling and coordination of patient therapy appointments.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
- Participate in patient care conferences.
- Collaborate with staff to support therapy goals and updates.
- Educate team members in the areas of clinical expertise.
- Support facility documentation practices.
- Communicate effectively with discharge planners.
- Integrate patient and family input into treatment sessions.
Professional Development
- Utilize continuing education opportunities to meet regulatory requirements.
- Participate in professional networking and development activities.
- Present at team conferences and facility in-services.
- Maintain current clinical knowledge.
- Fulfill continuing education requirements from regulatory agencies.

Experience and Skills Needed
- Experience in geriatric rehabilitation is preferred.
- Additional experience in neurology, cardiac, or general adult rehab is a plus.
- Knowledge of physical therapy treatment techniques.
- Understanding of therapeutic modalities and related devices.
- Familiarity with prosthetics, orthotics, and assistive devices.
- Proficiency in medical terminology.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse patient needs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Education
- Associate of Science degree from an accredited PTA program.
Qualifications:
- PTA license obtained in the state of California
- Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
