About This Position

Position Overview:

The Pharmacy Technician at the Physician Prescription Dispensing Center of Gwinnett Pulmonary & Sleep is responsible for the preparation and dispensing of medications. This role involves accurately filling prescriptions, maintaining inventory, and providing exceptional support to both the pharmacy team and patients. The Pharmacy Technician ensures that all medications are dispensed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with regulatory standards, contributing to the overall quality of patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Prescription Preparation and Dispensing:

    • Assist in the preparation and dispensing of prescriptions under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
    • Accurately measure, count, label, and package medications according to prescription orders.
    • Ensure that all medications are dispensed in compliance with physician orders and regulatory requirements.
  2. Patient Interaction and Support:

    • Greet and assist patients at the prescription dispensing center, answering questions and addressing concerns related to their medications.
    • Provide patients with information on how to take their medications, including dosage instructions and potential side effects, as directed by the pharmacist.
    • Process and verify insurance information, ensuring accurate billing and co-pay collection.
  3. Inventory Management:

    • Maintain inventory of medications and supplies, ensuring that stock levels are adequate and orders are placed as needed.
    • Conduct regular inventory checks and remove expired or damaged medications from stock.
    • Assist in the management of controlled substances, following strict protocols for handling, storage, and documentation.
  4. Regulatory Compliance and Safety:

    • Ensure that all pharmacy operations comply with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Gwinnett Pulmonary & Sleep policies.
    • Follow proper procedures for handling, storing, and disposing of medications, including hazardous substances.
    • Participate in regular audits and quality assurance activities to maintain high standards of safety and compliance.
  5. Data Entry and Record Keeping:

    • Accurately enter prescription and patient information into the pharmacy management system.
    • Maintain detailed records of all transactions, including prescription refills, inventory adjustments, and patient interactions.
    • Ensure that all documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with legal and regulatory requirements.
  6. Collaboration and Teamwork:

    • Work closely with pharmacists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care for patients.
    • Assist in the training and orientation of new pharmacy staff, sharing knowledge and promoting best practices.
    • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of policies and procedures that enhance pharmacy operations.
Required Qualifications:
  • Certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in a related field preferred.
  • A minimum of 1-3 years of experience as a pharmacy technician, preferably in a clinical or physician dispensing setting.
  • Strong knowledge of prescription medications, including their uses, dosages, and potential side effects.
  • Proficiency in pharmacy management software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
