About the role

  • Reporting to the Social Development Director, this position is a salaried, exempt position. Responsible for the operation of an assigned dormitory and for the supervision, counseling and guidance of students assigned to dorms in compliance with government and management directives. Demonstrates on-going commitment to preparing young people for the workforce by modeling, mentoring, and monitoring excellence in the eight Career Success Standards of: workplace relations and ethics; information management; communications; multicultural awareness; personal growth and development; career and personal planning; interpersonal skills and independent living.

What you'll do

  • Supervises Residential Advisors assigned to the dormitory and ensures that they adequately meet all student needs.
  • Provides monthly and weekly activity reports to Social Development Director.
  • Maintains order and discipline in assigned dormitory while encouraging the development of self-discipline and an awareness of others.
  • Ensures orderly, safe, clean, and healthy living conditions in the dormitory by scheduling and supervising clean-up and repair assignments; Ensure clean-up and always maintain the dormitory.
  • Requisition supplies as necessary to ensure the dormitory is always “inspection ready”.
  • Ensure cafeteria monitoring coverage is provided, as necessary.
  • Oversees social skills, student leadership sessions, and reviews achievement records for accuracy.
  • Assists students in handling special problems and conducts dormitory meetings.
  • Participate in 90-day, 6-month and annual evaluation of Residential Advisors.
  • Provides supervision for laundry, lounges, special activities on and off center, and other program areas as assigned.
  • Attends required staff training sessions.
  • Facilitates and promptly report to appropriate staff, and aid students in the event of injury, illness, emotional trauma, arrest, trouble at home, etc.
  • Participates in the disciplinary process as established at the center, including zero tolerance for violence and drugs.
  • Supports other center programs including recreation/training, behavior management, counseling, student government, etc.
  • Facilitates the maintenance of folders containing information, forms, etc., for each student assigned in the dormitory.
  • Oversees dormitory meetings for planning required activities and encourages leadership development.
  • Cultivate and maintain a positive climate that is free of harassment, intimidation, and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn.
  • Clearly communicates and consistently models appropriate CSS and employability skills including personal responsibility and computer fluency.
  • Maintains accountability of staff, students, and property, adheres to safety practices in all areas of responsibility.
  • May assist with other tasks as needed.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • High School graduate or equivalent; Associate of Art’s degree preferred.
  • One year of experience in dormitory management or work-related field working with at-risk youth. Previous Job Corps experience a plus.
  • Able to complete all mandated training requirements per government and management directives.
  • Valid driver’s license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record.

Additional Requirements:

Ability to effectively relate to and communicate with disadvantaged youth. Ability to obtain and maintain CPA/First Aid certification. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Able to read email daily and reply to messages in a timely manner based on urgency and importance. Knowledge of education and vocational training programs, and local social service and community assistance resources. Ability to inspire and motivate staff. Position requires an ability to operate office equipment. In addition, individual must be able to interact with team members and maintain an effective working relationship with all facility staff and departments.


The pay range for this role is:
53,000 - 57,000 USD per year(St. Louis JCC Main)
