Job description:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our healthcare team servicing the Veteran Administration Medical Center in Cheyenne, WY Meds by Mail Program. Meds by Mail (MbM) is the primary pharmacy program, with Virtual Pharmacy Service (VPS) as a component. MbM supports programs such as IHS, Veterans Choice, and VHA-Integrated Veterans Care (IVC), managing external prescriptions that may require interaction with providers, patients, or their families.
Place of Performance: 100% fully remote, but work hours are Mountain Standard Time
Schedule: 9am-5:30pm MST
Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret prescriptions for completeness. Identify missing pertinent information and correspond with providers or patients for clarification as needed.
- Enter correct drug strength, dosage form, directions, quantity and day's supply into the patient's medication profile per MbM policy. Processes prescription refills and electronic prescription renewal requests. The prescription entry will be verified by a pharmacist.
- Able to read computer screens and select specific drugs/products required to fill a prescription by name, strength, quantity, refill number and directions.
- Processing patient letters, including return and back-order letters.
- Working in various queues including adding new providers to MbM provider database and working in various specialty pharmacy teams.
- Utilize pharmacy information systems to identify basic therapeutic problems such as duplicate therapy with drugs in the same drug class and alerts the pharmacist to the possible need for clinical intervention.
- Processes medications that are returned to MbM facilities according to MbM Policy.
- Performs call center tasks according to MbM policies and procedures and all applicable federal and state laws, documents oral disclosures in the patient's electronic health record.
- Report medication errors and quality issues in alignment with MbM Quality and Safety reporting program.
- Participate in reviewing medication histories, allergies, adverse drug reactions, and drug therapy compliance with patients and/or significant family members/caregivers.
Qualifications:
Certification: PTCB certification
License: State Pharmacy Technician License
Experience: a minimum of six months' experience in retail or hospital pharmacy setting or be a graduate of an Academic Technician Training Educational Program
Education: Have a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate
