AUTOBODY SPECIALIST

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Auto Body Repair Techniques: Proficiency in various techniques such as dent repair, panel replacement, and welding.
  • Painting and Refinishing: Knowledge of mixing and matching paint colors, applying primers, basecoats, clear coats, and other refinishing techniques to achieve a seamless finish.
  • Body Shop Tools and Equipment: Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of tools and equipment such as spray guns, sanders, welders, and paint booths.
  • Vehicle Anatomy: Understanding of vehicle anatomy and construction to effectively diagnose and repair damage.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to analyze and diagnose complex auto body issues and develop effective repair solutions.
  • Safety Procedures: Strict adherence to safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries in the workplace.
  • Knowledge of Materials: Understanding of different materials used in auto body repair, including metals, plastics, fiberglass, and composites.
  • Teamwork: Collaboration with other team members, including detailers, mechanics, and supervisors, to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Quality Control: Commitment to maintaining high-quality standards throughout the repair process to ensure customer satisfaction and safety.
  • Knowledge of Regulations: Awareness of environmental regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices related to auto body repair.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five or more years of experience as a skilled auto body technician; or equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Experience working with adolescents

§ Multi-State Sex Offender Registry (SOR)

§ NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) fingerprinting

§ NYS Justice Center Staff Exclusion List (SEL)

§ NYS OMIG Medicaid Exclusion List

§ Out-of-state child abuse register inquiry of any state in which the person resided within the last five years (if applicable)

§ NYS License Event Notification Service (LENS)

§ Office of Inspector General (OIG)

  1. Must successfully complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI)

HOURS

  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Must be flexible to meet the needs of the program

SALARY

$26 - 30 per hour

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Be able to handle all the physical responsibilities of the position, which include but is not limited to lifting, moving, and prolonged periods of standing
  • Must be able to complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training

OBJECTIVES OF POSITION

  • To perform skilled automotive body repair and refinish tasks for the Agency’s fleet vehicles (over 100).
  • Employees in this job also function as a part-time Vocational Instructor for the youth assigned to their specific skilled trade area, providing a positive work experience emphasizing the development of good work ethic and vocational skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Trade Specific:

  1. Diagnose and complete repairs of all Auto body-related issues.
  2. Plan and oversee a fleet body repair and detailing program
  3. Supervise the ordering, storage, and distribution of parts, supplies, and equipment
  4. Assist in preparing budget estimates and recommendations
  5. Properly use equipment, materials, and tools in a safe and professional manner
  1. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations, Vocational Program Supervisor, and Automotive Mechanic Supervisor.
  2. Responsible for adhering to and performing all duties in accordance with every safety standard, practice, and policy of The William George Agency. This includes, but is not limited to, a review of The William George Agency Safety Policy and the attendance of all required safety-related training.
  3. Adhere to all rules, regulations, policies, and philosophy of The William George Agency, the Office of Children and Family Services, and the Department of Health.


Vocational Instructor:

  1. Upon hiring into the program, assess the youth’s interests and knowledge of the Vocational Program specific to your trade area
  2. Instructs youth in a skilled trade to prepare them for employment upon discharge
  3. Plan and conduct on-the-job training activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides youth with opportunities to observe, question, and participate in
  4. Instruct youth in the proper and safe care of work areas and all applicable equipment; stress safety at all times
  5. Be prepared and in a position to begin work following the Vocational Program time schedules; ensure that assigned youth are properly supervised at all times and maintain attendance and work schedule records
  6. Enforce established dress, conduct, and behavior codes appropriate to the Vocational Program area
  7. Communicate and document significant behaviors or incidents on behalf of youth.
  8. Maintain all trade-related, Vocational Program, and youth records and paperwork in a timely, organized way

The William George Agency for Children’s Services is located on a 650-acre campus nine miles northeast of Ithaca, in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. It is a private not-for-profit residential treatment center licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) that serves both male and female youth between the ages of 12 and 21, and their families, who present with significant mental health issues, behavioral difficulties, and substance abuse issues. Our programs offer an array of treatment modalities specifically designed to meet the needs of our youth.
