Position Summary
Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital is seeking a Per-Diem Psychiatrist at approximately one half-time commitment to provide high-quality psychiatric care in an acute care hospital setting. This position includes direct patient evaluation and treatment as well as consultation-liaison services to medical, surgical, obstetric, and emergency departments. The role is weekday-based with flexible, negotiable hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive psychiatric assessments and provide diagnosis and treatment planning for hospitalized patients.
- Deliver direct psychiatric care, including medication management, patient education and therapeutic interventions, on a DMH-licensed inpatient psychiatry unit.
- Provide consultation-liaison psychiatry services to medical, surgical, obstetric, and emergency services.
- Provide, as assigned, occasional inpatient coverage for psychiatric clinical staff.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary care teams, including physicians, nurses, social workers, and allied health professionals.
- Document clinical encounters in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
- Participate in care coordination and discharge planning as appropriate.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Schedule
- Monday-Friday coverage only
- Approximately half-time per-diem commitment
- Hours and specific scheduling to be negotiated
Qualifications
- MD or DO with completion of an accredited Psychiatry residency
- Board-certified or board-eligible in Psychiatry
- Eligible for medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
- Experience or interest in consultation-liaison psychiatry preferred
- Core competencies and experience in identifying, assessing, and treating substance use disorders (SUDs), including screening for all substances, understanding co-occurring mental health conditions and using evidence-based interventions like motivational interviewing, psychopharmacology (including MAT)
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills and demonstrated success in working in a fast-paced clinical environment that requires timely completion of tasks and consistently respectful treatment of patients and staff of diverse backgrounds.
